All our threads end up going off topic! That's why this is such an interesting and entertaining forum!
Joe - you could start a fight with Mother Terasa. Your opinions are valid of course, but when people disagree with them try chilling a bit. An opinion is not a fact.
I'm well aware, I was being sarcastic - I love threads going off topic, it just seems whenever I'm involved in it, I get told off Won't happen any more though, I'm reborn.
Not sure where Jesus told his followers to go out and kill non-believers. The New Testament, which is the guide for Christians, isn't that sort of work. Yes, there's some wacky stuff in the Old Testament. (Important to all three big religions) It IS possible to follow the words of Jesus closely and live peacefully. The words of big Mo, it seems, must be followed only partially, ie. leave out the killing bits (quite a big chunk). Strange religion which can only be seen as tolerable if it is not followed correctly. Mormons....Strange people to be sure! But wasn't Joseph Smith an abolitionist, with regard to slavery? There were also some prominent black Mormons, early on. Mind you, I've got no time for any of the mainstream religions. Excuses for bigotry and intolerance. Doesn't mean that there aren't some very nice practising individuals in spite of this.
I have no idea what you're talking about. Breconsaint and I are having a perfectly chilled debate. Why did you feel the need to chime in with that? Trying to start a fight yourself it would seem.
I don't know a whole lot about Joseph Smith, but the story of how he "discovered" the Book of Mormon is hilarious. The problem with Mormons is that they tend to follow the words of their book very literally. If they didn't then they'd just be regular Christians. They're supposedly the most politically conservative religious group in America, so they'll vote in numbers against any progressive legislation. The mainstream religions are largely fine, and I have a few religious friends who are perfectly decent people, but I feel they're integrated into society a little too much. I had to sing hymns and recite the Lord's Prayer in primary school, and I'm not too happy about that. Also, whenever Obama mentions God in a speech, it makes me weep a little for humanity. Especially considering he's supposedly not religious.
The only way I know about Joseph Smith is because of that episode of South Park. And that makes me feel kinda stupid.
anyway............ i hope hoddle fails miserably if he takes the post, ive never liked nottingham forest.
I liked Forest a couple of seasons ago, but after failing in the playoffs too many times they got desperate and ruined the team. Still they have some players I enjoy watching, like Findley, Majewski and Cohen. Hoddle would be next in line of a series of crap managers since Davies left. They should have stuck with him.
I liked Lee Camp a couple of years back, and then he made the change to Northern Ireland too. But since he couldn't get his move to Swansea, he seems to have dropped massively, and he's had a few shockers for us too.
Say no more. You argue my point very nicely. Its just that so many debates on this forum seem to end up with you in heated, and not always friendly, debates with anyone who disagrees with you. It just gets a bit tedious sometimes. That is why I felt the need to chime in. I'm not trying to start a fight. All I'm asking is that you try and have a courteous debate rather than forcing your opinions. Maybe you don't mean to do it but thats how it comes across to me. Sometimes the written word doesn't pick up on irony etc, if that is your intention.
So you thought you'd play the mediator? Well you'll be pleased to know that the debate here is not heated. No heat whatsoever. People who disagree with me in a sensible way get a sensible debate. I may get a little unfriendly at times, but I never start it. Anyway, no opinions are forced. I can't make you agree with them. If you really don't want to read what I say then you can always block me. I won't mind. Alternatively you could actually just join in on the discussion. It's a pretty interesting one.
Thanks Joe, but I try to avoid debating religion, its next to impossible to convince anyone who holds a contrary opinion. Re, "...I never start it". We'll see!
