Just seen that SG still doesn't know his best back 4,tobe honest with the quality & experience we have of defenders he should start by putting players in their strongest position and put promising committed and focused Beadling alongside JOS for starters_ we would improve with and fans would be less critical imo.
The defence needs a strong team in front so include the macs on the wing DW in the centre and attack with a purpose from the start. Don't let the opposition take the initiative.
Anyway low crowd for Saturday for a first home victory - imo:emoticon-0148-yes:

There's a long list of coaches we could/should go for.

I agree stability is key for long term success but you don't find that by sticking with a failing manager. He's had ample opportunity now and the man is proving disastrous.
 
Just saw Bristol City's result last night :-0

Then a glance at the league to see they've only lost 2 games in 13 in the league. Don't think Saturday is the day the monkey in released from our backs.

Bristol City. Managed by a 36 year old Lee Johnson.

No doubt in my mind that if we brought Johnson in that fine record of his would be destroyed. Plus there's the whole clean slate...getting to know everyone...blah blah. Back to square one and the club still has the same problems.

With that logic we'd have stuck with Mick Buxton and not appointed Peter Reid. Wonder where the club would be now.....
 
Thing with changing managers is sometimes it works but more often doesn't. Over the last 20 years we've maybe done it 12/13 times and honestly the only ones who were positive for more than 10 games were Reid, Keane and Allardyce. A 25 per cent strike rate.

That's the thing, sometimes it works but it usually doesn't and it's a gamble we can do without. Low risk rebuilding is what we need now.

Now we're relegated the calibre of manager available will be worse and it'll be the same thing as it was in the prem just in a lower league. Endless succession of crap managers while the club goes nowhere.

I think most neutrals would agree that Grayson is around the region of a mid table Championship manager, good enough.

I think his day is done personally - I loved it when he first came in and thought he was a great person to have steering the ship but his successes in management have been zero. His discipline with the nous of an experienced manager then that'd be great.

I do think we'd be better off now had he stayed though
 
I reckon Short will be caught between a rock and hard place on Saturday night if Sunderland lose again. There is no escaping the fact, no matter what your opinion is on changing managers, that Grayson's record........ at any other club....and even this one, if finances were better, would see him sacked.

I'm in the belief that paying yet more compensation is a factor of him still being at the club, it certainly isn't on results or performances. I am sick as anyone seeing one manager after another at Sunderland, but right now, we are drifting into league 1.......surly that has situation HAS to be addressed and with some urgency. Having said all that, we beat Bristol and the whole scene will look much brighter....such is the life of a football manager eh!!

I can't disagree with any of that ... but under Ellis Short we have employed 3 of the best managers in PL history (O'Neil, Allardyce and Moyes) and look at the state the club is in.
The Short regime is the issue. I can't see any manager succeeding until he departs

Good call but can you list more than 2 successful managers we've had since the 60's (start with Bob Stokoe and Peter Reid.... :emoticon-0112-wonde

Not too sure where you are going with this, or the point you are trying to make mate.

I'm saying that managers at SAFC under Elis Short struggle due to lack of funds, or some idiot DoF making decisions on their behalf etc. We were an established 10 year premier league team at a time when it was highly profitable to be in such a situation, and we behaved like a bunch of paupers due to Elis Short.

I'm pointing out that regardless of owner we do not get really successful managers. May be like Poyet indicated it's a deep seated problem. We have first rate facilities and an active fanbase most clubs yearn for a real sleeping giant. But it's points we need and SG needs to get the team playing to its potential in this league. Hence at least 7 points before international break. If not????

Everything is relative though isn't it. Premier League football has never been so lucrative, and we crashed out with crippling debts due to Elis Short's incompetence.
Under the watch of Cowie and Murray the money wasn't there, so comparisons with then and now are unfair.

I'd even take Poyet back. Christ, Alan Pardew is better than Simon Grayson and that's saying something

Would any of them come. Maybe, maybe not but we should be asking the question.

If they aren't putting feelers out for new managers they are even thicker than I thought
