Having a 'fair wind' behind you implies that other people have the money to spend on your product or service. If you have eg. 30,000 unemployed steelworkers in your town and 30,000 vacancies in the IT branch you cannot match the one up with the other and end up with structural unemployment. You could of course start up your own business (if you have the capital) but if your immediate location is full of the same 30,000 unemployed steelworkers then it's not going to get very far. Which means the 'flexibility' to relocate - but then your house in Liverpool only buys a third of the same house in the affluent home counties - besides which nobody understands your lingo down there ! You could of course re train in something else - but the problem there is that you have to have re training programmes in existence in the first place and you have to be certain that the job you are retraining in will not also be killed in 5-10 years. How many jobs can you safely say will still exist in 20 years time apart from in caring for the old ?

The UK currently has the lowest unemployment for 45 years, this is including the million that came to the UK from the EU because their own countries were unable to create any employment. There may well be unemployment in future because of automation, just no sign of it yet.

Growth in the UK economy has slowed to its lowest rate in almost a decade, the Office for National Statistics said.

Year-on-year GDP growth slowed to 1% in the three months to the end of September - the lowest since the first three months of 2010.

Despite low interest rates, a collapsed exchange rate, the economy is failing. No matter what you choose to say about why this is happening, there is no one to blame except the current government.

There have been studies which show that the real rate of economic inactivity in the UK. is around 21.5% - either officially unemployed, inactive, or involuntarily employed part time. This includes a whole range of jobs which have become 'freelance' such as lorry driving and in the construction industry - compulsory self employment if you like to call it that. It appears that the last years have seen more work given to manipulating the unemployment figures rather than in creating full time jobs in the UK.

"Boris Johnson will be handed a major election boost today as new figures show that Britain's economic juggernaut is firing on all cylinders." So says the Daily Express.

I wonder how long it will be before people start to quote this as fact? It does show up perfectly that you shouldn't believe everything you read in a newspaper, especially at election time.

BBC have been caught editing video footage of the wreath-laying ceremony to cover up Johnson's mistake. He managed to lay the wreath upside down, whilst looking like a dishevelled mess.

If poor old Corbyn had done the same the press would be in uproar. Apparently doctoring video footage is in-vogue this election season...

Calling the Daily Express a 'newspaper' is pushing it a bit OFH...

Apparently the UK narrowly avoided a recession thanks to Government intervention. At least when Brexit happens we'll finally be rich <cheers>

No, the people to blame are the remoaner MPs and the dwarf Bercow who delayed Brexit. It is the uncertainty that is most unhelpful for businesses. After Brexit the pent up investment funds will start flowing again.

The UK's growth rate is much better than Germany which is in recession. France fared only slightly better than Germany with 0.3% growth in Q3. These countries are not directly experiencing Brexit, what is their excuse for such poor growth?

The Conservatives have been given a massive electoral boost by The Brexit Party agreeing to not field candidates in any of the hundreds of seats currently being held by the Tories. Farage has described the move as a 'leave alliance'. This will be far more effective than the so called 'remain alliance'. I'm sure there will be further concessions by Farage who clearly does not want to be blamed for a Corbyn government by default.

So he has given into the instructions from Trump. Two little Trumpettes now. Let's get our democracy back sounds like a hollow joke.

Yet again, answering a simple question seems like a challenge for some

A thumping Tory majority would be really nice.

We just need Farage to back off from current Labour seats in the North and the Midlands that will then become Conservative.
Corbyn has achieved the almost impossible, giving Labour voters no alternative than to vote Tory, well done Jezza.

Looking at that screenshot, Toby, Corbyn is wearing a red tie... it was most certainly a deep blue yesterday. de pfeffell also set off to lay the wreath before the parade had been ordered Stand At-Ease. Some brexiting idiots on my fb timeline went on to suggest that Corby didn't bow his head either... just liars! It's unacceptable.

Johnson's wreath changes colour <laugh>

It's also worth noting that it looks like he's not showered or changed his clothes for several days. Poor Corbyn was attacked mercilessly for looking 'scruffy' and 'not Prime-Ministerial' (whatever that means) last year, but it's all fine if it's Johnson.

I will continue to point out the constant lies we're facing from this government over the next few weeks. This is not how things should be done, and I've not seen a single Tory on this thread condemn them.

There are also several politicians that no longer work for their parties/are in the cabinet anymore.

Cameron, May, Farron, etc...

Apparently it was a 'mix up' at the BBC. Someone just accidentally stumbled into the archive footage and spliced it into the normal footage. Accidents like that could happen at any time.

In 1963 John Profumo lied to the House that he had not had a sexual relationship with Christine Keeler. Once it became obvious that he had, and she had been having a similar relationship with the Russian spy Yevgeny Ivanov, it was obvious that pillow talk could endanger national security. Profumo resigned, and within months it helped to bring down the Tory government of Harold Macmillan. Today Johnson seems to wear his lies as a badge of honour, but there are rumblings going on about his relationships with Russians, which could make him a risk, as was Profumo.

I'm not actually sure about this SH. It has effectively rubber stamped the Tories as the hard Brexit Party. It says, in effect, Farage is happy with Bojo's Brexit deal. I am sure there are still remainers and moderates, in the Tory support base who will be horrified by this. It may prove to be a poisoned chalice.
