Farage said his political life was not over, claiming a new party would rise from the ashes. “It will become the reform party, it will campaign, one of the reforms being getting rid of the first past the post system and giving people a choice,”

Using the Polish proportional representation system, the next House of Commons would be as follows:

    CON 325
    LAB 237
    LD 88

    Government 325
    Opposition 325

FPTP is here to stay, at least five years probably 20 years.

Nigel's work is done, he should go and help his mate Donald.

    Completely wrong

You need to stop posting incorrect facts. The WTO is NOT out of existence. Try to read Guardian articles thoroughly. It is merely a closure, probably temporarily, of the appellate body top court. This does not mean suspension of the ability to trade under WTO rules, and there will still be a dispute-settlement panel. All that is missing is the very top court at the moment due to Trump's refusal to nominate judges.

The one person who will be sorely missed from parliament next term is Frank Field, the former Labour Minister. He was a tremendous local MP and also one who particularly championed the working class, often at the detriment of his own career. He was totally respected by all MPs across the house apart from the current hard left Labour leaders.

I believe the future is a united Ireland, preferably as an honorary member of the Commonwealth
Wether that would suit the hard line extremists on both sides remains to be seen

There were three reasons Labour lost
    Corbyn
    McDonnell
    Abbot
And to make things even worse their manifesto could not be funded, Corby even admitted he would have to take more tax from pensioners and low income workers to fund it
Anyone with an ounce of sense knew he would not be able to tax his main targets because they have Accountants and Lawyers to make sure it never happened
The 4 day week scam if implemented would have bankrupt the NHS and any other company or organisation that had to provide 24/7 cover
I voted Lib Dem, I have never voted Tory and never ever will vote Labour
Unless they restructure their party and rid it of the poisonous Left Wing Extremism they may have to wait a long time before they get another chance to Govern again

The election is over, and I see little point in revisiting all of the same arguments again. I will be closing this thread down for further comment at 1700 GMT.

    Fair comment.
I think in the North it was Brexit first and secondly their view of Corbyn and his initiatives. Corbyn did not present as a good leader nor did he handle the smear of him at all well.
They would have achi8eved some of their manifesto pledges through borrowing, which is what Govts worldwide have done throughout history. However the manifesto clealry appeared to be over ambitious etc etc.
I for one believe that people should not to have to work the hours they do. When the computer technology arrived we were all told we would not have to work as much etc etc.Meanwhile people are working harder and more than ever.
Also i agree with the need for a restructure to package something that the ordinary working person can accept and see its value for them. Perhaps the Labour manifesto offered so much it put people off.
Sadly Swinson over extended what she could offer and paid the price. I regret her losing her seat as I think she is an honest politician and she is young and appeared naive.
    Thanks for this...

And this is why the Tories got in. I've seen more in-depth political analysis in The Beano.
