They have 2 directors of football working all year round behind the scenes working on player recruitment options if they lose a key player. They’ve sold £80m worth of players in the last few years. Re invest half and the squad still improves. They really do look excellent.

I’d be really happy using the Brentford model at City. Unfortunately we have a ****wit owner and a numpty in charge of recruitment.
That’s only because they couldn’t prize Lee D away from us...

Apart from Tarkovski and gray arent they all championship players?
As i say' very good at getting good money for average payers.

Button is at Brighton.

I’d also say the value of their current squad far outweighs the value of ours. They have got a terrific squad of players and play some great football.

He's the backup.

I think the, play attractive football is important, and makes their players attractive. But they really aren't all that.
They've not had a harry or robbo. Or a Brooks or Maddison.

What’s to say they don’t have that sort of player in their current squad? I’d say this - what they achieve at present versus the clubs still benefiting from parachute payments is outstanding.

Every season they lose 2-3 key players from their team - yet still manage to improve by bringing in the next player which they have already identified.

I think it’s a very progressive way to run a club and I found it interesting last night when they were talking about some of the ways Brentford use statistics internally.

They may well have I wouldn't know.

They're not improving though. Finished ninth again last season. Two or three years ago they made the play offs. They'll sell again at Xmas if they hit a slump.

Can't see our fans been happy with selling our best players year on year. Weve done it for two years and lok what's happened to us.

It is progressive re the analysis, but they're heavily reliant on their chairman andbenefactor putting his money in to prop them up. They're debt is increasing year on year. Even with player sales.

Most of that debt has increased due to Benham putting in money towards improving Club infrastructure. Circa £40m towards stadium and training facilities.

Most of the debt they have (70%) is nothing to do with normal club trading, it's all related to the building of their new stadium.

Not what I've read.
60 million in debt two years ago. Nothing to do with the stadium

In their latest accounts (June 2017) and the debt is listed at £53.7m, with £26m of debt attributed to the Community Stadium Project. They've obviously still got debt, but it's one of the lower ones in the Championship (the ones that are lower tend to be those yo-yoing from League One, MK Dons and the like).

From the Bees forum.

Erm, the club operates to a built-in operating loss of £15m per season. Prior to Matthew's intervention, we were living a hand to mouth existence, relying on player sales and BU monies (raised from the fanbase) to keep the club afloat with debts over £10m (once you factored in non-financial debt liabilities). Back then we were even worse off then Leyton Orient with the likes of abee and BeeH helping to run the club on a no-fee basis...Matthew refinanced the club, paid off the debts, has since funded the club to the tune of (give or take) £100m from his own personal fortune. I'd say it was pretty accurate...

That's not inaccurate, their operating loss is a matter of public record and it's not £15m per season (and it still relies on player sales), last season they made an operating loss of £854k and and the year before an operating loss of £7.6m.

Ye I can read the same things online you can. Debt went from what to what?? I'll let you fill It in.

They saved money on wages by scrapping the academy too. Which when they do it you will applaud. If we did it you'd be up in arms.

Some good points made re: Brentford.

They've done and are doing well, but as ever, the situation is complex rather than they're simply all-round fantastic.

I have no beef with them whatsoever, so don't mind them doing well, but I'd be surprised if they go the distance.

I reckon around 8-10th and from my view, that's still a good season for them,

Can't be easy having CFC, FFC and DQPR in the area, they do very well to thrive in that context.

Preferable to all the afore-mentioned as a club also.
