Fonte posted this Instagram in the New Year....I thought it was telling at the time that there was one photo of him in Saints kit and he didn't look exactly happy. How difficult would it be for him to find one hugging team mates or celebrating a goal.
That to me, is still completely bizzare and I can fully understand that he's pissed off about it. In fact I'm still annoyed about it!!
I will always think highly of Jose for stepping down a league and helping us get to the Premier League, and for being an inspiring captain for most of our time in the top flight. Whatever went wrong after he came back from the Euro's, it has been obvious that his head has been turned by something, or a combination of things. For his sake, I really hope he gets a move to one of the Lisbon teams for his last few years. If he goes to another Premier League side, especially Man Utd, I fear we won't see much more of him.
All the best Jose - in my opinion, if anyone deserves to leave when he wants to, it's him. Not overly impressed by Reed going so public when he claims we do all our business in private.
Good luck to him. Has been a great servant at saints. Saints have served him pretty well too. Can't blame him taking an opportunity to play for (Man U?) a big club in the twilight of his career. Huge defining moment for saints though. The last of the Div 1 players leaves.
Is Jose goes to Liverpool I will not be best pleased ========================== Everton's more likely.......
Exactly my feelings. I believe his agent & his agents top client, Jose Moreno have poisoned him since the summer and this has been a contributory part of the alleged dressing room issues. As SF4L infers earlier, Fonte should immediately be stripped of the captaincy and VVD installed as the Gaffer
When you look at those photos, I am amazed that Pards didn't make a move for his sister rather than his wife (seen with Jose's arm around her)
Bearing in mid that Everton have just given long term extended contracts to virtually all their old players, Jose would fit in nicely.
Jose has done a lot for us. and I will always remember that and thank him for it. But the club has done just as much if not more his career (International level to) over the years. It's not exactly a one way street, which makes it odd when people think the club owe Fonte something. He turned down an extra year extension and a considerable pay rise, which says it all really!
Thanks for everything up to and including Euro 2016. Thanks for at least keeping your head in the game on the pitch afterwards, if not off it.
