No, don't remember the first. But one of the first was Saints 9 - 3 against Wolves 1965 or 66 not sure. Saints sign Wolves goalkeeper a few weeks later! We went 1 down as I recall and I think Chivers scored 4.

There is a rumour that I went in 1959 with my Uncle but I was a mere babe and don't know if its true or not. If so, that would have been in the 3rd Division.

Do you remember your first ever Saints match? This may have been done before, but not for a while and it'll be interesting with the spread of ages. Tell us your first game and anything that stands out in your memory of that game.

Mine was Southampton v Hereford at The Dell circa 1975/1976. Saints won 2-1 or 1-0 and a certain Terry Paine played what at the time, was his last game for Hereford (they talked him out of retirement for a few more games later). I remember asking my Dad why there was such a loud cheer for one of "their" players. I know now. This was in the old Div Two.

Happy Days.

I remember that game. I can't remember the score but I can still recall one defence splitting pass from Paine. Still the best passer of a ball the game has seen!

My first match was approximately Late November/early December 1947. It was a charity match against an all stars 11. I think it was the game I got my first glimpse of a certain Stan Mathews and Tom Finney. Although in fairness the memory is not as good as it was as there was another such match in the early 50's. If memory serves me I think this match was to raise funds for stadium lights, both of them definitely played then. Which we eventually got and I think we were one of the first in the country to have them!!

I think we played the first ever league game under lights.

Mine was vs Blackburn in April 94. I was a 11 year old Blackburn fan at the time (due to idolising shearer) stood in Milton road end the atmosphere was amazing with a 3-1 win although I could not see much of the game I was instantly converted to a saint and never looked back. Next home game was villa and we won 4-1 great first two games my folks brought me a season ticket the season after

Southampton v Sheffield Wednesday at the Dell for my 13th birthday in 1999. Winning the game 1-0 (Le Tisser).

First football stadium in the country to have permanently installed lights, Beddy.

My dad was in the Navy and returned from post war time duties somewhere to discover that his stay at home brother had been taking me to Fratton Park. Dad was incensed and dragged me off to the Dell for what must have been a 3rd Division South game. I can't remember the opposition, but Saints won 5-1 and I was hooked. His brother never forgave him!

I still smile when I hear the "My Old Man said .." song, and bless my old man.

I like that.... but seriously, are you ok? Do you suffer with any dark memory flashbacks? It must have been horrible for someone so young :)

I always felt that I should have raised the issue with Social Services. Both my dad and my uncle are long dead, but maybe I still have a claim for child abuse.

Oddly enough though my dad, as was often the case with the services, was a classic deferential Tory while my uncle was slightly to the left of Lenin. At my dad's funeral I was able to tell my uncle that although dad had won the football "war" I'd followed my uncle politically. I think it was scant consolation though! The old bugger remained a season ticket holder at Fratton into his late 90s, and needless to say died in the close season. It is one of the reasons why I genuinely have a soft spot for our deadliest rivals. Although, of course, those late equalisers last season were like knife wounds.

Mine was season 72/73. Arsenal had won the FA Cup (thanks to that famous Charlie George goal) and they beat us 1-0 at home.

I remember feeling very small (I was 9) inside a "massive" football stadium!! :)

My first game was 8th Oct 1969 against Man Utd at the Dell, which I believe was our record crowd for the Dell of 31,044. We lost 3-0.

My Grandfather RIP took me and I was only six. I had to stand on the proverbial orange box to see anything as only the rich had seats in those days

I have been hooked ever since.

Saints vs Brighton in the 82/83 season. First season with Shilts in goal. I cannot remember anything other than that about the actual game though!

The person who sits next me has alot of history in the club and their father actually paid for the lights

And they were the best lights in the country too, in my opinion. Because there were eight banks of them and they were relatively close to the ground, compared to the more familiar four corner positioned light banks, they lit the pitch up like day [or it seemed to me]. So the next time you see that person, just say thanks.
