Do you remember your first ever Saints match? This may have been done before, but not for a while and it'll be interesting with the spread of ages. Tell us your first game and anything that stands out in your memory of that game.

Mine was Southampton v Hereford at The Dell circa 1975/1976. Saints won 2-1 or 1-0 and a certain Terry Paine played what at the time, was his last game for Hereford (they talked him out of retirement for a few more games later). I remember asking my Dad why there was such a loud cheer for one of "their" players. I know now. This was in the old Div Two.

Mine was 2005 when we beat Colchester in the league cup with a dexter blackstock hat trick. Brilliant game and one ill never forget!!
 
My first match was approximately Late November/early December 1947. It was a charity match against an all stars 11. I think it was the game I got my first glimpse of a certain Stan Mathews and Tom Finney. Although in fairness the memory is not as good as it was as there was another such match in the early 50's. If memory serves me I think this match was to raise funds for stadium lights, both of them definitely played then. Which we eventually got and I think we were one of the first in the country to have them!!
 
Saints at home to Stoke in the 1st Division! Anyone know what year that was, early eighties? Or have I just made that up? Milton end, with my dad, 0-0. I think I was about 8, and as you could imagine, I found it a tad boring as a spectacle.
 
Away at Wimbledon in 1995 I think, I would've been 7 and I remember saying to my dad that I thought my ears were going to burst when we were in the middle of the away support. Was the game that Le Tiss admitted later that he had bet on the timing of the first throw in, Saints won 2-0. Think the first goal may have been a bit of a MLT special aswell, but can't remember for sure

Didn't Le Tiss score from a corner in that one?

Mine was 1999 away at Aston Villa. 0-1 to Saints, 81st minute headed winner from Dean Richards RIP. "Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way. / Oh what fun it is to see Southampton win away!"
 
13th March 1993, we beat Ipswich at the Dell 4-3 with a couple of tiz goals and Super Kenny Monkou in the last minute! Have been in love ever since!
 
The Danny Wallace testimonial, would have been about 2004?

First league match was Man City at home in 2004, a 0-0 draw under Steve Wigley
 
August 20th 1966, Saints 1 Man City 1. The whole country was on a high after England winning the World Cup just 3 weeks before, and my dear old Dad introduced me to Saints heaven.

As FLT says above, Happy Days.
 
Easter Saturday, I think, 1958 home to Watford, it was 5-0 to us.. hooked. In the chocolate box with my elder brother.

i've googled it and that was a similar game. Away at Wimbledon, Saints won 2-0 but it was in 1999, so not the one I went to.

Like you Beddy time plays havoc with memory but I think mine was c1952 and my Dad took me to a Saints v All-Star XI match to celebrate the first match played under those very floodlights...Stan Matthews played that night as well and we were excited about seeing him....I remember stepping from the dark night and seeing the pitch lit up a brilliant green, it was magical. He took me as often as he could afford to after that as I was hooked. When it was really packed they'd send all us nippers to the front and lift us over the wall to sit pitch-side, we had to hug our knees as we were so close to the pitch and wingers.

FTL you are a sod for reminding me of this, I'm ashamed to say that tears are welling up as I write it, the old man is still alive....I last took him to St Mary's when he was 95, returning the favour.
 
Saints QPR 89-91 season. Can't remember it that well, i was 6. My dad got us half season tickets and wouldn't let me see chesea at home because my mum was worried about trouble!
