Coincedently, that was also the first game I went to! Went with my family when we moved down from Colchester, and ended up supporting the Saints!

1989. Saints 4-1 LIverpool. Liverpool won the league I was a young lad whose dad didn't like football so my uncle rob and a guy called big H used to take me to games. Good times and would love to watch saints at the dell again.

We lost to crystal palace 4 1 in 2007. Their was a terrorist attack a few days earlier but our defensive performance was just as bad.

Saints 1 Coventry 0, January 11th 1969 - late goal from Jimmy Gabriel. Second was a few weeks later, 0-0 against Newcastle.

First away game wasn't until Easter Monday 1977, beat Bristol Rovers at the old Eastville ground. Can't remember the score, can't be arsed to go and look it up.

Mine was Saints vs Newcastle at the Dell in March not sure the year, recall us being 1-0 down with 15 odd mins left and us winning 3-1, well at least I think that's what happened as I was only young :)

I didn't start watching Saints until April 1971 when I went to the Dell to watch the great double chasing side Arsenal.

Prior to then I spent most of my time playing football, training, working or shagging so I was too active to be a passive supporter although I did follow football with allegiance to no particular club.

    The team that day was:

Eric Martin, Joe Kirkup , Dennis Hollywood, John McGrath, Brian O'Neil, Hugh Fisher, Jimmy Gabriel, Tom Jenkins, Ron Davies, Mick Channon and Terry Paine.

Paine scored for Saints but lost 2-1 and Arsenal won the league and the cup that year.

I was hooked and have been a Saints fan ever since and I have only missed the odd home game since and usually get to a few away games each season.

IMO they have had much better teams since then, particularly in the mid 90s when Cantona was at his imperial best, despite not coming anywhere near winning the Champions League when he was there.

First Saints match! A Boxing Day match against Plymouth Argyle in 1964. I think and Saints won 5-0 or something like that. George O'Brien scored a hatrick if my memory serves me right!!

Some great first matches. My 12 year old son's (and daughter, though she soon stopped going) first game was home to Coventry in about 2006 or 2007. 1-1 draw. My daughter needed the toilet at 3:10, 3:25, 3:40, 4:15 and 4:35pm. She didn't go to too many more games. We were in the family centre, though by the time he was 8, he wanted to be "up the other end" and since then we've been Kingsland North.

His first away game was 2007: Wolves 0 Southampton 6 (six)

My first match was in the early 90s...I took my son (a ManU fan at the time) to watch us lose 1.0. I actually cheered the goal for my son's sake and got some 'looks'...how naive could I be!! I soon saw the light...took my son a bit longer (now he suffers with me).

Mine was at the Dell in the 1st Division in 1984/85 season - we beat West Brom 4-3 :) Not sure of all the scorers but I think Danny Wallace may have scored at least one them - he was my favourite player at the time (possibly one of my favourite ever players)

You were just one season too late to see one of our best ever, if not our best ever, seasons.
