It's nice to win a derby (we've won a fair few so we know how it feels), but the season overall is far more important.

The difference here is that Sunderland are realistically looking at the derby win (maybe 2) as being the highlight of your season. If we finish the league within 2 places of each other whilst both staying up then the winner of the derbies would have enjoyed it more.

The reality though, is that you'll be lucky to stay up and we're pushing for a top 8 finish. I care little about the last derby defeat and as long as it's no gutless 0-3 repeat of last season, the next derby will have little consequence apart from on the day.

Give me a decent league finish any day, derby wins are a bonus. Beating Chelsea, Spurs and Man U are bigger achievements than beating a team bottom of the league :p

If this is a wum it is a bit pathetic. You are doing well ATM, but Cabaye is making noises about PSG and you may find him packing his bags in January. Big hole to fill, for you bums. And pushing for a top 8 finish really means finishing 8th, as there are 7 clubs who will finish higher. As for beating Man U; great result, but you have also lost at home to Hull. It's how you fare across the season that counts. As for the derbies being the highlight of our season, we're in a cup QF and a result in that puts us in sight of a trip to Wembley, so forgive me if I disagree.

To summarise, your comments are noted and I am pleased to see you won't be that fussed if you win the next derby at Sid James. Saves us a few more dreary comments...

Love that when the Mags get beat then suddenly it's all about the season itself. Not like the 5-1 win they wouldn't let us live down when we finished above them!

Just more bitter mags who can't handle losing the bragging rights. It's enough to make them smash up their city <laugh>

Come on lads, it's like the scene out of the wanderers...'leave the kid alone'...

Poor bairn, it's took years for him to finally have a bevy, and be brave enough to try and do a hit and run exercise on this board.

<laugh> Cue our slide down the league as Sunderland win their next 20 games in a row! Things like this always bit the poster on the backside.

That's what like to see :D fighting talk! Much better than excuses. This is the sort of thing that separates you from the Children fella. <ok>:D

Never confident at your place with good reason. I'll celebrate a draw like a victory. If we did win though fella, once you've slayed the horses will you save me the hooves? We wouldn't want our very own Monty to run out of glue! <laugh>

It's certainly a bigger achievement than not beating them, ballbag.

    Just speaking my mind!

The comments in reply are hardly constructive are they?

Because of the last 2 derby defeats I have now lost the 'fear' of losing a derby. I've seen us outplayed on our own turf, and unluckily beaten by sneaky 20 yard strike. The prospect of losing the next derby is not nearly as daunting as it might be if we were both occupying similar league positions. It has made me realise that derby wins don't make or break a season.

Nothing WUMMY at all about my comments. Sorry if you lot can't take a bit of banter. Swings and roundabouts with us as you well know.

If that's true then you're a very rare specimen ........... after 60 years without a current major trophy you have little to get excited about.

If you're not fussed about the derby matches then what is there, you'll never win the league and seem useless in the cups.

I love the derby games wherever the teams are at the time.

You can't enjoy a victory half as much if it doesn't bother you that much if you lose.
