Getting Pochettino back after he has not done particularly well at the French equivalent of City (with way less domestic competition) is going to be a car crash that wrecks his career and our already slim chances of rebuilding a team...do it's a non from moi

You just know Levy’s looking at this though. Sack Nuno, re-hire Poch for free, Dele reinstated (again!) and Winks new contract guaranteed <rofl>

I love the standard for "not doing well" for PSG.

They're currently top of the league, 7 points clear and they've lost and drawn one league game each.
They're also top of their Champions League group, despite it containing City and Leipzig.
They also beat both of those teams, only dropping points against a surprisingly good Brugge side.
LawnballSports currently sit bottom with 0 points from 3 games.

I don't want Pochettino back, but winning 11 games, drawing 2 and losing one would do me fine.

Given our budget for transfers, failing to exploit our Academy's work is a massive error and it's cost us dear with Madueke and Walker Peters, both of whom should be playing regularly for us.

I know that we appointed Chris Perkins as Head of Emerging Talent in the summer, to add to Paratici and Commercial Officer, Todd Kline. One can only hope that signals a commitment to getting in specialists to carry out specialist roles...AND THAT WE STICK TO IT.

If we're going to reappoint Poch, we don't need to go back to blocking loans for players who need to be playing competitive, first team football. Given our financial disadvantage to United, City, Chelsea, etc., we can't keep making rectifiable mistakes.

PSG are in the easiest (ie least competitive) of the big leagues in Europe.
They were runners up last season which was beyond poor.
This season they lost the Charity shield to Lille (taken more seriously as a trophy in France apparently...**** knows why though)
In the league they have won 4 games by one goal and have not looked convincing and the fans have been very vocal about the style of football.
I like Pochettino and if he had appeared to have learned more I'd happily have him back but with even with Messi, Mbappe, Newmarket, Ramos, Hakim, Di Maria, Wijnaldum, Icardo etc PSG don't really convince as a team

Pochettino took over midway through last season with PSG in 3rd after they sacked Tuchel, though.
This is his first full campaign and they're well clear already.
Those fans think that they're Real Madrid and they're acting exactly like their fans.

On course to win the title by 25+ points and they're already moaning?
They'll never be happy.

This is why I said on another thread that Pochettino's reputation about being good with and promoting youth was vastly exaggerated.

Bennetts, Griffiths, Madueke and Edwards all left Spurs under Poch's tenure whilst Binks left in the February after Poch was sacked in November. All of these were amongst our highest rated players in the academy and the latter three of Madueke, Edwards and Binks have been carving a decent professional career so far with Madueke obviously the standout. Madueke as well as Binks have given interviews about how they left Spurs as they felt their futures would be better elsewhere, whilst Edwards said he felt the reputation of him not working hard enough stuck for longer than it should've been and he was unfairly not given any more chances. Then there's the whole Walker-Peter's fiasco of being practically kept on the sidelines for two years playing about a handful of games.

Seems like Poch was phenomenal at improving what was here in the first team or on the fringes of it but beyond that he done very little, despite having a lot of talent to pick from and utilise over the years.

I think Poch is similar to Bielsa in that sense. Good at working with a core group of players but not so good at dealing with those on the fringes. I think purely saying he’s lucky with the group he had is a bit reductive but one of his failings was that he wasn’t great at balancing the wants of his favourite core players to play every game with the need to integrate outsiders. Both new signings and youth players who weren’t 100% first-team ready, like Kane.

I do think he was lucky, he inherited primarily a good team that had been extremely poorly managed. But that's also taking nothing away from the work he done because it doesn't matter if a team is promising and full of potential, you have to make sure you get those players to reach it and he done that and some. He took some players to a level that they (or we!) probably didn't even think were possible. Under him at various stages we had the best CBs, best FBs, best CAM and best ST in the league, with a number of others well up there amongst the best, it's actually a travesty we didn't win anything really.

His squad management was always a weakness and I think it was down to him that a number of key players got long term/ multiple injuries, whilst as above I also blame him for the losses of a lot of promising players. The amount of money we could've saved with some of those staying if they were given assurances and chances would've been massive, especially Madueke and Edwards in my opinion (we've spent £37m on Bergwijn and Clarke for instance), whilst Binks probably would've saved us paying out for someone like Rodon - not that I don't rate Rodon, I really do but it would've been £10m-£15m that we didn't need to spend and could've put elsewhere.

The obvious disconnect is that when it was said he works best with youth, the assumption was that it meant the youth team, which is why there's the belief he can't work with young players

Yet the reality is he can, as evidenced by Kane, Dier, Walker, Rose, Dele etc etc with us or Schneiderlin, Mane, Rodriguez etc etc at Southampton, none of whom were players you'd call in the primes of their careers

In terms of our youth team, though, when the only players to graduate to the first team during Poch's time were Winks, Skipp and Tanganga that is problematic, as is the reason why Edwards, Shashoua, Georgiou, Sterling etc all going out on loan in 2018 because their agents demanded the club loan them or else - and even by then we'd seen Velkjovic, Azzaoui and a few others leave that is when we should have looked at the step between academy and first team

Given our dearth of central midfield options, not getting any of Jack Roles, Tashan Oakley-Booth, Josh Onomah, George Marsh or Paris Maghoma to the level we could have them come in for a few games here and there a la Jamie O'Hara is certainly biting us in the backside
 
A big no from me to Poch coming back , the rot set in when he wrote that book , some of my best memories came in this era but I cant see him getting much from this team and certainly nothing from Levy and co
