This part is now worse than Koeman leaving.

Every single potential manager will have half a dozen posters giving reasons why they should never manage at Saints and when the person does get appointed [in about two months time] there will be plenty posting why it is a 'terrible decision'. If I remember rightly there were a hardcore that did not want and were convinced Koeman was the wrong man after he was appointed.

It does seem sometimes as if we are appear to think we're Real Madrid whereas in fact some of these names would be an amazing appointment.

I just voted for AVB as I didn't realise who unai emery was. I'm now wondering why the heck Everton didn't go for him instead of Koeman? He's either not going to join teams like us or he's holding out for a move to Saints, the team he followed as a youngster!

They did go for him, but I think he said no.

Ronald was always their first choice though.

I'd cry tears of joy and surprise if we got him. The Premiership is a big draw though, and we have European football...

In all the hysteria on both here and the other forum over the past few days most people seem to have forgotten how Saints are set up on a footballing side. The entire structure is not supposed to be dependent on the Manager.

You only need to look at what happened to Manchester United and what Arsenal fans fear happening to them as an example of how this can not work. Another example is Sunderland where a new manager comes in and signs and sells a dozen players every summer (I particularly remember Steve Bruce)

The club is set up so that beyond the manager and his two coaches of choice everything is stable. Koeman will go and take Erwin and Jan with him and the new incumbent will only get to bring 2 people. Minimal upheaval.

Add this to the quotes that I have seen mentioned about the club compiling a scouting list of managers and I am sure this is all in hand.

So my vote is whoever Les picks quite clearly

Hysteria? Not sure there's really much of that. Disappointment, yes, but no hysteria (which probably says something about Ron).

Not sure why people don't rate AVB. I haven't actually seen anyone mention the fact he won the europa league with Porto as part of a treble winning season. Did extremely well with spurs (record points total) and has now been successful with Zenit. In terms of the poor spending at spurs, how much of that do you think was him? These days it's often the case, especially at clubs where Daniel Levy is in charge, that managers don't actually play a major role in transfers.
Personally I'd take AVB 100%.
Big name that would attract players.
Sets out a statement that we can attract high profile managers.
Premier league experience.
Europa league experience and success! Young enough to buy into a long term project
Seems to tick the right boxes for me

Not sure there is hysteria on here...wouldn't,t dare go on saints web. I think severe disappointment is the main feeling....our hero has feet of clay. I hope we will just carry on, though there is a chance of a minor blip whilst the new manager beds in. The king is dead, long live the king...we march on. The board have earns our support.

With regards to Ronald and Everton, I'll be very interested to see the contract length he gets given. What is his average stay at one club? 3 years? Maybe 4? Now if you think realistically how long it would take Everton to rebuild and push on into a European spot (first season will be fairly tricky in my opinion) you're probably looking at a good few seasons. It's been mentioned before that the Everton squad is ageing so £100 million won't stretch that far (unless he unearths some gems like Mahrez or Kante). Plus, the stadium that's been promised to him in this new vision of the Everton owner, well from what I've read they haven't even chosen on a location yet.

From a human being perspective, I can appreciate his ambitions. A career is short in football, and he's clearly been sold by the vision that Everton have with all their new found riches. It's just a shame that the fairytale of Leicester seems to have been forgotten already, and we're back to where we were before with Chairman (especially new ones) throwing money at a problem. I have utter faith in our board and the approach they are taking in building a long term future for our club, both here and abroad. That takes time, possibly longer than your average manager would want to sign on to. We live in a world now where success is wanted instantaneously, rather than build up over time.

I won't boo him, however Everton home and away will be the fixtures I'll be looking for as soon as that fixture list is announced.

I think we're at the point where we are surely no longer naive enough to think any manager would act differently in these sort of circumstances? Even TSS' eyes must have opened to the fact that managers' and players' words don't actually reflect truth beyond that precise few seconds in time when they are first spoken!

Spot on Fran. When my children were young I used to impress upon them the importance of truth, honour and respect. I told them they only had to steal one thing or tell one lie and their reputation would be ruined and they would never be believed or trusted again.

Hi Craig, good first post, but have to pick up on the short career thing - might be true for a player, but managers seem to go on for decades. There's no excuse for short termism when you can do a job for potentially 30+ years.

For what it's worth here's my top 3 and in no particular order:

1 Emery - Looking for a new challenge. Seville similar to Saints in size and structure. Experience in Europa League
Used to working in similar conditions, where we buy players young, then sell on for large profits.

2. FDB - No approach to club needed. Experience again with geling young players and a great youth system. European Experience. Beat RK twice to win the Dutch league (I think?).

3. AVB - Again no club to approach. Experience in Europe and the Premier League. Very well respected throughout Europe. Harshly treated at Chelski and Spuds. And out of the 3 less likely to leave when a bigger or richer club comes calling?

Outside bet would be Flores.

Getting quite exited really. Just hope we don't give the job to Martinez now. Aaarrrggghhh

Welcome Craig. I agree with a lot of this. It's about the money. The one thing I'd add to your post that your post made me think about is that new stadium. Yes it shows great ambition, but how long will it take to have it? Years possibly?

Well done Ron you will be even richer (if you go) but you may not be around there long enough to enjoy all those promises.
