Agree that wages seem the only part of the article that doesn't correlate with what we've heard from other sources.

This actually backs up the Jack Schitt post, but from a Koeman perspective. We know he didn't think the academy players were good enough(said openly) Les felt it was up to Koeman to try and improve them. Koeman either didn't think that should be part of a first team managers role or felt he wasn't a miracle worker.

Clearly both were happy to continue with these slight differences in opinion, but when the first serious offer came in and those agreements were tested then those differences have become more like a chasm.

Pretty sure some ITK on Saintsweb said Koeman was offered a 2 year extension at £3.5 million a year. Don't know where Ashton came up with that when every other journo close to Saints and otherwise has said differently.

Ronald Koeman's side of what happened at Saints this summer...

‘To be involved in this project for the next couple of years is a big feeling. I will keep it short on Southampton as it is important to look forward in life. I had a meeting with the board - the first option was to go into the third year of my contract, and I said that was not possible. There was no way I was signing a new contract and I did not agree. Through that whole story, Everton showed that kind of interest. Southampton gave me the permission to talk to Everton and I’m the new manager - and that’s all I would like to say. Thanks to them, we had two fantastic seasons - thanks to the players, staff and fans, but I’m in Everton now.‘
