Cheers for that. Having read that, it's not so much an all-out Everton to win the PL as a they've got as good a chance as any. Which in some ways is possibly true.
http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spor...emans-everton-arrival-confirms-blues-11455007 Jesus. Sums them up! Apparently being mid-table for 30 years plus doesn't make them a mid-table team
God I hope this whole experiment fails. I mean they're getting Ronald Koeman ffs, not the reincarnation of Sir Alex. In other news, I presume Ronald is doing that classic thing before leaving of using up all his holiday allowance in one!?
Older supporters will of course remember that Everton have had an illustrious history. But so have Huddersfield. If one values tradition alone then Huddersfield are a bigger club than Everton. But tradition requires respect to have value and these days respect is pretty thin on a season-by-season basis, because tradition helps very little when trying to win a match or championship. No club has a divine right to be respected and Everton have to show they merit the amount they desire.
Perhaps we put him on gardening leave whilst it's all sorted. Can't see us wanting him hanging about the place.
Sometimes necessary to discourage the others. Arsenal have marble busts of past managers....we could have stuffed heads.
That's why I think the signing is destined to fail. People are taking it as a "statement" which has more to do with Everton than Koeman's abilities. It's not so much that Koeman is a great manager, but that Everton threw their weight around by spending tons of money and are showing clubs who is boss. Except they really aren't because other PL teams looking for managers teams have already gotten the likes of Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp. If Koeman just takes Everton's first offer, I don't think the papers make as big a deal out of it. It would be more like "Why is Koeman so quick to leave Saints? It's a sideways move, etc." Koeman is no better a manager just because Everton spent crazy amounts to get him. Really if Everton were truly a "big club" they wouldn't have to overpay Koeman. Like if Barcelona made an offer for Koeman with no promise of mega-transfer budget and no wage increase, Koeman would take it, and none of us Saints supporters would have been too upset over it. Spending assloads of money cranks up the expectations, but unless spent wisely doesn't actually improve performance. Not that I think Koeman is a bad manager, he just can't possibly live up to that wage. Everton next year could move up from 47 points to 57 points. In my mind that would be quite a successful season for a new manager still molding a team. But they might finish 8th with that total and not make Europe. I doubt that the supporters or owner will view that as a success.
The only team that ever really managed to really buy the league in the modern era was Blackburn Rovers. By the time Chelsea & Man City came into their billions, utd. Arsenal & even Liverpool had players and revenue to match. Now there are at least 6 teams who consider anything less than top 4 a failure, and another clutch of teams (including us) aiming for Europa places and all good enough to reach them, too. So there's no way they'll just buy their way into the top tier. Just looking at Man utd since Fergie left & Chelsea last year proves that. Good management is far more important than money these days, and Koeman is a Europa level manager at best. At least from what we've seen. So Everton really need to readjust their expectations.
Aha. The ignore function. I have never had a reason to use it until now but it is about to be set. Cheerio.
Jeez. Just got home from sunny Scotland thinking he's bound to I've gone by now.... FFS, FGS... Be gone already!
Koeman has just tweeted "when is the european championship opening ceremony?". I liked the reply saying "I didn't think you were interested in European football
