... patently not ... a huge number have been duped / misled ... if you really can't see that the inference from the Bus pic is that this particular sum / saving (at least) will instead be invested in the NHS should Brexit triumph, then you are either very naiive or just being 'economical' with the truth ...

I got the inference and thought it was a powerful message ... my sceptcism about such a 'veiled promise' ever being met however, derived from the prospect of trusting future investment in the NHS to a bunch of public schoolboys who undoubtedly have top tier BUPA cover for themselves and their families .. <ok>

Now if Jeremy Corbyn was ever to become Prime Minister, I have absolutely no doubt that there would be significant increase in investment in the NHS ... and therein lies the rub (and not embrocation for those that are a bit literal) :)

It seems to me, the reaminians fell for it far more then the brexiters. It was discredited before the referendum.

I think like the incessant insistence we're all racist, people just got tired of being accused of being stupid.

It was discredited by remainers - and anyone with an once of sense. But many leavers kept harping on about it and harping on about how much more money we'd get. Suddenly we leave and places like Wales, NI, Cornwall among others are having to fight for any type of funding to replace the lost EU funding as the 'these areas won't lose a single penny' promise that was shouted loudly before the referendum has suddenly gone quiet. Instead we had Osborne saying we'd need more cuts to cope with the economic downturn caused just by the vote to leave (and we are not even out yet!).

The claim was thoroughly discredited but that didn't stop the Official Leave campaign using that and immigration as the two central planks of their campaign. And as you could see by discussions, interviews and also comments online with people - that there were Leavers who bought it.

I disagree with those that say it played any real part in many people's choice of vote, but in the unlikely event those say g it did are right, so what? The argument t was done to death before the referendum.

I posted a link to the Joseph Rowntree trust that looks at why people voted as they did, and they don't support the position of the remainins on here either.

We're in a different place now and the people responsible for the claim are not the ones making the decisions. It's a remainIan in charge, and they seem happy enough to press on.

Strange that only the remainers see it as spend 350M on the NHS and everyone else does not.

None of what you are saying makes sense. "if someone says" - in this case the Out campaign; "then you do that" - the only organisation that can do that is the government when the UK leaves the EU
so you are wrong on the following counts:
why should the government have to carry out promises meant by another organisation
lets see what happens when the UK leaves the EU - there's no logic to do it now

you don't seem to understand that there is no logical reason why the Out campaign can set government policy

... on the some are not so bright comment I can readily agree ... I presume that "everyone else does not" in your post refers to he brexiters on here?...

... my other half's cousin voted to leave ... he's a van driver for a small scale metal construction company ... he's now pretty miffed about the value of his pound as he he is about to go on holiday ... I queried whether he had considered that and some other things before he had voted ... he confessed he hadn't ... his motives were based largely on newspaper headlines and some of the more populist TV strap lines ... he singled out stemming the flow of immigrant workers and the fact that instead of wasting money on such things as European bureacracy and quangos we could now be able to put such previously wasted money into the NHS and education ...

I suspect he is typical of many brexit voters ...

I seem to remember Hilda Ogden calling Eddie Yates one of them, back in the day.

(For years I thought Coronation Street was a documentary about life up north.)

that are related to you. .he sounds far from typical of any of those I've met.

A friend works in a factory with a large percentage of migrant workers. He's been calming them down after they were concerned at some of the myths and bullshit pedalled by the remainians. The remainians I've met seemed to be voting in opposition to the issues, that have since been shown to be myths, such as the immigrant issue, and the bus nonsense.

I guess it shows that you can have access to all the information in the world, but people will try to use it to confirm their view, rather than get a wider perspective.

I think a student could use this thread in a thesis on cognitive dissonance.

Yes, could being the operative word.
With our national debt rising at 1.5 billion a week and our debt repayments already over 1 billion a week with a slowing economy and expected reduction in tax receipts I know what I think the money will go towards.

... <doh> ... whether I understand that or not is irrelevant (for the record I do) ... but a sizeable majority of people that voted to leave did so genuinely beleiving that a brexit win would facilitate the exact 'benefits' being flaunted by Boris, Gove, Fromage and the leading Brexit figure heads ... because the government, whether led by Cameron or someone else, would feel obligated to implement the winning campaign's agenda ...

Without such expectation nobody would have bothered to vote ... what would have been the point?.
