wow after nearly four hours of posting this thread we finally have 1 in to 27 outs....says it all really
I'm gonna guess it's Fredor.
I'm gonna guess it's Fredor.
I'm gonna guess it's Fredor.
either that or fat mike walks among us....
Pardew blaming local press for defeat today.
Well my choice would be... Steve McLaren
I think he still gets too much negative press for his time with England even though its the most poisoned of chalices. Worked wonders at Boro (youth coming through excellently, winning a trophy and then look what happened when he left), a miracle at Twente and is now doing very very well with Derby.
An English manager with excellent pedigree who has won domestic trophies and a league and who is currently plying his trade in the league below us. I don't know what is more depressing a) the abuse I will get for suggesting him b) the fact he wouldn't come.
But hey lets just appoint someone who has no experience in the Premiership or of winning anything instead and cross our fingers. We all know Pardew isn't going anywhere fast.
I think he's someone who could do well and agree he is underated. I'm not sure he'd leave derby for us though. He's doing well there and I'm not sure a contract with us would be that much more attractive when you factor in the hassle that comes with it.
A name that I haven't seen mentioned is Neil Lennon. I'm not sure I'd want him but he's favourite for the Norwich job, (supposedly) looking for a new challenge, and has done ok (not great) in the champions league. He's used to operating on a very tight budget and to getting the most from limited resources. Surprised nobody has suggested him when there have been mentions of Dundee United's manager.
Lennon is fairly negative though and they don't play great football. I think those sorts of managers just end up getting pillared here. At least McNamara's teams play enterprising football and his work with the youth side is second to none. I think if Lennon does go south though, McNamara is a virtual shoe in to go to Celtic for obvious reasons.
The Wally in the Brolly has done quite well in spells. No guarantees though as failed in Germany, failed at Forest, failed in his second stint at Twente and of course with England. A chequered career to say the least. England was too early for him. Also it would depend with McClaren turns up. The one currently overseeing a free scoring Derby, or the negative defensive one who was hounded out of Wolfsburg and Twente for boring the tits off them.
I think we have to choose carefully. The clamour from most fans seems to be for a patient, passing style with movement as per Rodgers/Martinez/Pochettino etc. I'm not sure Mike will give the fans what they want even if he does remove Pardew.
