We were happy with Bruce as he was better than the other realistic targets. Bruce has spent most of his recent managerial career in the Premier League. He has a proven track record of getting teams into the Premier League, keeping them there, and making them mid-table Premier League clubs. In addition, he has an impressive record of recruitment and keeps our recent association with Man Utd strong.

Can't find anything to argue with there ....

You do know this recent association with Man U is because of Nigel dont you?

Yeah Warren Joyce is there but Nigel has been the one who brought the players for you and he would let anyone force players on him even if they was from Man U. Plus since he came back we have signed Danny Drinkwater, Ritchie De Laet and Matty James from Man U.

Impressive record of recruitment is perhaps a bit of a stretch given the amount he's spent, but other than that roseniorhisgranisfromhull pretty much covered it. What i'd have included is an impressive record (along with his coaches he's bringing in) of working with young players to reach their maximum potential ie Henderson, Colback, MacLean... obviously our first team has some very good young players in and around it so hopefully he'll continue his record of bringing them on (and selling them for more than £10m )

Also proven track record of getting clubs into the PL and keeping them there.

Once isn't proven IMO.

It all started when we loaned Tom Cleverley in League one.

SAF said the way NP developed Tom was outstanding.

Proud - what you say is true but Bruce also has very good links with Sir Alex Ferguson and Man Utd ... Kieran Richardson, John O'Shea, Wes Brown, Fraizer Campbell, Danny Welbeck ....

Yeah Bruce does have good links im just saying the links arent between Hull and Man U. Theres between the managers

Hes talking about something different.

When Nige was at Hull they signed a lot of ManUre players and the Hull fans thought it was all down to Warren Joyce being manager of the reserves. When actually Nigel had a lot more impact into the deals than they give him credit.

Pearson's definately developed a relaitionship yes, but Hull have been going there for players since well before he came to us (Campbell & Manucho) and that was because of the relaitionship between Adam Pearson & Warren Joyce, not as much but we weren't skint like we were when Pearson came here (or didn't act like we were anywhere). Pearson exploited our link because he had to, realising the value for money you can get out of it he'll no doubt continue going there no matter which club he manages in the future.

And yes Adam has left now but seen as all the Man U lads get on great with each other and we have a few that have all been here a while and love it, that means if we're interested they'll get in touch with each other and our lads would encourage them to sign (in theory at least!)

EDIT: i didn't know about the Tom Cleverley thing, in that case i guess we can agree we both have good relationships with the club, i still maintain my stance on our players pulling their's to us, i know you have players too but i'd like to ignore that <laugh>

That is completely true

But what we're saying is that Nigel went there as a Leicester manager too and was applauded by SAF himself for the way we treated one of his best young players on loan.

You think that our ex-manager being manager of Man United reserves has no bearing on the relationship between Hull City and Man United reserves?

We were loaning Man United players before Nigel was even manager at Southampton.

Exactly this.

End debate <ok>

There are definitely certain 'established' relationships in football .... Southampton appear to have become something of a feeder club for the North London giants ... we have had a string of loans from the two Manchester clubs in recent yeras .. partly it is to do with the way that the football is played ... but more often it comes down to personal relationships between the mangers / coaching personnel ... Steve Bruce is obviously able to pull 'favours' from Sir Alex and I suspect that will continue ... for my own part I much prefer it where we actually buy a player rather than loan him .... the problem with loaning a prodigious talent is that you rarely get to buy them .. Tom Cleverly is an example and I'm old enough to remember us loaning a young (and awesome) Kevin Campbell from Arsenal ... he was so much better than anything we had got at the time ... just knew we were not ever going to be able to buy him (or indeed that he would be up for sale) ..

I didnt say that. It does have some influence but Nigel was an even bigger influence. If Joyce had agreed to send Hull a player on loan and Nigel didnt want him then the move would of happen. Nigel may have been offered players but he is the one who had to agree to the deal. Nigel has proved since he came back here he has strong links at Man U which date back from when we was in League One and we loaned Tom Cleverley

Put it this way.

Whoever gets Larnell Cole will be laughing. Top prospect.

Not that i want to re-open the debate too much, but i don't think he has proven anything since his return to Leicester. He's paid for 3 players, paid good prices that aren't cheap by NPC standards for players that SAF clearly doesn't want anymore. You haven't loaned a single prospect off them like we have. Evans, King and Brady were all seen as good prospects, we signed Evans because they let us as he was less of a prospect, but mainly because he decided at a young age that he wanted to leave Man Utd since he enjoyed playing first team football.
This time round Brady is considered unlikely to make the grade due to his lower than expected performances here and now they want rid (if OLM is to be believed).

Not that i'm saying Pearson/Leicester doesn't have a relationship, all i'm saying is that paying good money for 3 of their players that SAF has already decided won't make it there doesn't prove it (or disprove it)

EDIT: also, who's Larnell Cole?
