Did you miss Keri Stammers version of the Working Class he WONT tax to extinction People who are not owners of or buying houses, or cars and therefore have no choice but to use Public Transport and do not have any kind of savings
I am pretty sure you own your house and helped you daughters through University so my friend YOU are one of the many people who voted for him who will be ****ed when he finds as previous Governments have that the Mega Rich who were gong to fund his policies are untouchable and he funds them through increased taxation of the people who can he thinks can afford it

I probably tick all those boxes too and can honestly say that I don't mind paying more tax so long as it's being used correctly. That's always the issue I suspect. Yes there are people who just don't want to pay any taxes ever but I think most accept that so long as they are being used to fund things we need then it's ok.
I'm certain that I'll personally be financially worse off under Labour but voted for them as I think there's services which need urgent help which were being left to rot under the Tories. We shall see if that works out, though the answers to those kinds of things are always far more nuanced than a yes or no.
It depends on how much he tries to take from working people and for me how much he tries to squeeze from retired people, my wife and I are both retired and are just about on the side of being comfortable so we survived the increases caused by the war in Ukraine etc but if we are put in a position where we have to use our savings just to survive then it will feel like we worked all our lives for nothing
I just do not trust Starmer, he has never ever given a straight answer to anything he has been pushed on and he changes his view to suit what he thinks the person asking him wants the answer to be
I hope I am still around to see all his new admirers turn on him because he cant pull all the rabbits out of the hat quick enough to please them
One interesting thing to come out of the campaign was Streeting saying he would solve the hospital backlog by giving all those patients to the Private Sector paid for by the taxpayer, the Tories wanted to do that but were advised by the opposition that that would be seen a step to Privatising the NHS

Agree with this. I actually think the rate of income tax should rise so that everybody pays a bit more according to their earnings, but I know how unpopular it is and why politicians swerve it. But like you say, the vast majority of people would be willing to pay more tax if they knew it was going to pay for the NHS, schools etc.
Starmer is sitting on a potential £119bn extra per year if he can close the tax loophole system that the rich use to swerve paying their fair share and rightly he's said he's going to end the non dom status. I hope he goes after more, because that is something that the Tories allowed to fester during their time in office (partly because loads of them were taking advantage of it)
There's also corporation tax and windfall taxes he can levy. I know he has to balance investment into the UK alongside corporation tax, and Brexit has left the UK looking like a barren wasteland for investors, so that's an area where he needs to tread carefully, but potentially could also raise significantly more than if he were to raise the small taxes on individuals that the Tories were claiming he would do.
He's not going to be able to turn the **** show around that he's inherited in a short space of time
We've got massive debt, crumbling public services, and huge gaps in investment due to Brexit
I think it will take a full term to really turn it around and people will need to be patient. That said, they will also need to see some improvements along the way so that he can keep them onside, but people are impatient.
And by the way, those who thought Reform were the answer may not understand that Reform back massive deregulation of the rules of business and industry, which is basically designed to maximise profit for private gain. So that would mean lower corporation tax, and less levies against big business and thus less money for the exchequer.
Positive start for Keir Starmer, didn't select Emily Thornberry on his cabinet, so already ticked one positive box for me.

All this talk of a “people’s movement” and upsetting the established order and they’ve only managed a 1.5% vote percentage increase on 2015 (when Farage last led a right wing party that competed in all seats). And that’s after a massively unpopular Tory government and stoking the “culture wars” in recent years.
Yes, they have five MPs (less than half the numbers predicted in the exit poll) but there’s a risk they’ve hit a ceiling. Farage talks about making them more electable and mainstream, but that approach may turn traditional voters off (“they’re all the same etc.”)
Also, will Farage - the populist outsider - enjoy actual local government? Will he spend five years in Clacton addressing people’s needs or will he actually spend more time jetting to America and doing his TV shows and radio phone ins?

Farage ****ed up a bit, cos he prepared them for like 4-5 MPs at best. So they're not up in arms furious like they probably have a right to be.
