Plus when they do these protests, they don't know what the people are already doing towards being Green, when they affect them with their protests. My home has an excellent energy rating. Although I've got a car, I hate driving it - public transport don't help, well until you get in London - Getting a cab is not cheap, and it don't really help the environment either, because a return journey for a cab driver involves 4 trips unless you have a cab parked outside your house and then parked in the right location for your return journey. Walking is possible but a long walk and not always practical. Most people do some form of recycling these days. I'm not overkeen on Nuclear power but I accept it. I certainly am not keen on electric cars, but just bite my tongue on it and I don't pretend to have the answers, personally I'd have gone hybrid, but I'm sure people can argue against that as well. But whatever the choices they also have to be affordable for everyone.
But you're right, all of these Green principles are sound in theory, but you need to make them affordable to ordinary people to make it all effective. There's also the argument I was talking about the other day, where it has less of an impact to use something that already exists, rather than building a load of new stuff with all of the associated energy costs.
