Problem is, that social media is the place where a lot of people get their only source of information these days.
and THAT is the issue that needs addressing. WTF are people getting their info from X ffs! Thats the main underlying problem. god I hate social media (and yes I get the irony of posting this online, but again, doesnt make my point any less valid).

I don't know mate because I'll be perfectly honest I scroll past most twitter stuff, unless it is on the general matchday thread or Gessa's gif thread. If I see it's anything to do with politics, even be it about muslims, certain crime etc, then I'm not interested. Switch your brain off from it mate, believe what you want to believe and not what other people want you to believe. Personally I'd rather just ban twitter from 606, but there are some good aspects of it, and funny stuff (without degrading ppl), so it's a catch-22 situation. Although I think the anti English jokes/rhetoric are just as bad as any other stuff, again political agendas behind it, so those that post it are all picking which side of the court they wish to stand, and in the process stirring up hatred even more. Problem is legislation will come in eventually that will affect us all. Then you'll be looking back and thinking do you remember the days on 606 and we could say what we wanted, it's a difficult one for sure.

I generally only delete stuff if someone has highlighted it to me, chances are I've not looked at it OR I don't understand it. That's when I rely on you guys to say, hey brb bin this off mate - so it's self censorship in a way.
Therein lies the problem, the whole way we absorb information needs addressing. People are turning to social media because news outlets, both TV and papers, have just become mouthpieces for owners agendas. We have the Guardian on one hand and the Daily Mail on the other, neither of them give balanced news. Neutral news outlets dont really exist anymore. How much has been done to western culture because of the perception that social media is important? Its done irreperable damage to Hollywood and the entertainment industry as a whole. Twitter is not a reflection of real life. In my experience all its done is serve to amplify people's stupidity.
I've not looked at it mate, what part of that don't you understand? I know the type of shhite you post, so I just scroll past it. For all I know it could be video footage of Pinkie riding his bike and running into a few multi cultural friends in Cornwall.
The amount of information out there is part of the issue. Gone are the days of one or two news sources delivering the news. These days, you can literally pick what type of news you want, and whether it will support and reflect your views. Which imo is bad for people making informed decisions. One of the things I try and do, is if anybody gives me a piece of info, a meme, YouTube, TikTok, insta video etc. Is to (1) watch it (2) go and read about the person making the claim (3) go and read the opposite view to what they are claiming. And hopefully that helps me to make an informed view. But that all takes time, and a lot of people just take everything they see at face value, from a 30 second tik tok video. On the issue of neutrality, that is a big problem in media, and indeed many media outlets these days don’t even claim to be neutral, they have a definite political leaning. This is my opinion, but I would say that if you want a digestible (as in you don’t have to spend hours researching it all) and impartial (as it can be) opinion from the media, then BBC radio 4 is a good source of info. That is just my opinion though.
