in the summer of 2011 i bought myself a new boat. when i was trying it our, the engine stopped working and the lights all went off. i couldn't get any of it to work, so i called out the r.a.c., the royal aquaboat club. the man arrived on this motorboat and sidecar and checked the boat over. he told me the génerator had packed in and that i should call a.a. he gave me a card with the number of a.a. on it. i rang the number and a foreign sounding bloke answered. i explained about the boat the electrics going kaput. he told me he would sell me a generator to replace the dead one. i went round to his place and looked at the generators and we agreed a price for one that would do the job. i went home expecting them to let me know when it would be delivered so i could use my boat. six months later i'd heard nothing, so i rang them again. they said they'd rebranded their generators. they were now called leckymakers and since my order was for a generator i'd have to reorder it under the new name. this seemed a bit stupid, but i ordered a leckymaker and awaited delivery. four months later, i'd heard nothing, so i rang again, and they said they were having difficulty fulfilling the order because they'd relocated all the leckymakers to the other end of their premises and some of them had made some odd noises, so they'd had to stop going to work, and hadn't been to work for more than three months, so hadn't been able to fulfill the order. i asked what they were going to do and they suggested i met them at a neutral venue to discuss my problem. we arranged a date and time, but when the date came, i turned up only to find a secretary and a gardner there, but no sign of the owners. the secretary assured me that there was no reason why i couldn't have a leckymaker, because lots of people that had wanted leckymakers now had leckymakers. the gardner assured me that he would tell the owners about my problems and he hoped that perhaps one day i might have a leckymaker. nothing happened for a few months, and then i found an online forum for users of generators. i posted about the problems i was having trying to buy a generator for my boat and that was when i discovered the owners had an account on the same forum. everytime i posted, they'd troll me with comments about how i didn't have any money to buy one of their leckymakers and how i wouldn't be the kind of customer they'd want to take one of their leckymakers forward in an ongoing positive upward manner. i rang them to complain and they told me i'd never placed an order with them. i said i had and still wanted one. they said they no longer sold leckymakers but might sell me a generator, but it would cost me fifty million pounds. i said i didn't have that much and, in any case, home bargains were selling them for only twenty grand. they said we might be able to negotiate and they would get back to me. now every time i try to ring i just get an answermachine with a message saying that nobody called allam lives there, nobody called allam has ever lived there, and they did not know what a marine generator was. eight years have no passed and on saturday i went to where my boat was, only to find it had been sunk. i'm pretty fed up, as you might guess, and i'm wondering how much boats are at home bargains. if i can get one cheap enough, i might buy a patio set and chimnea for it as well.
