Just back from the game. A well deserved win on a hot day. We were stronger than Swansea all over the pitch and especially upfront where Umerah and Hanlon's strength gave Swansea no end of trouble.In midfield we had a nice mixture of physicality and finesse with Bone Lapslie and Kelly providing lots of quality ball to the front pair. Umerah took his two goals well and was unlucky not to get a third when a thunderous shot came back off the bar.
Hanlon looked like he had a good shout for a penalty after another surging run ended with him landing on the deck.

Just got back as well, only about the 3rd time this season I've seen them. I though Mitov's shooting was a bit off until I just read that it was Beeney, I can't tell them apart and there were no teamsheets. Apart from the players you mention I was very impressed by our no. 3, who stated at LB and switched to RB to cut out the danger from their LM. I hope his natural position is on the right, since we've got 2 excellent LB prospects on the way. Might go Saturday, they only need a draw to win the title.
That's Barnes, I believe he has been given a pro contract. His normal position is right back. I didn't mention the back four but they all played well. We have got some great players if they carry on improving.

Thanks, Dick. Good win for Jason and the lads. No doubt our own website will get round to posting something in the fullness of time. Curiously, we played Brentford in this same League only this Tuesday and drew 1-1.
Worth remembering we also have the following players age-qualified to have played in that game, who would (at least on paper) have strengthened the team a lot:

Plus the following who might, or might not, have strengthened the team:

Of course, the same may apply to Brentford. It is a funny old competition though, because you can play:
--- Three over-age outfield players (plus an over-age keeper)
--- Players contracted to other clubs if on trial with us
--- Your own players who might currently be playing League football out on loan to other clubs
So whether your management approaches this league competitively, or gives that low priority compared with development, varies from club to club. I remember Nathan Jones took it very competitively and had mixed feelings when players were "borrowed" for the First Team squad, but he may have had his own agenda of building an impressive CV.
Two questions to which Dick may know the answers:
(1) Where do we stand in this league?
(2) Are players disqualified from playing in this league once they have made a certain number of first-team appearances (Cousins would be an obvious example)?

Answer: our under-18s beat Crystal Palace to become champions of the Southern section for the third year running.

On to the national play-off semi-final against Forest, with the possibility of meeting Huddersfield or Brentford in the Final. We came unstuck at this stage last season. I wonder if we will play Gomez? I guess not, as it would be very unfair to the boys who have got us this far.

Harry Osborne concedes a penalty for handball and gets sent off right at the start of Welling's relegation six-pointer at Alfreton. They hang on for a draw. That's the trouble with Harry.

I had not previously realised that we are actually low down in a third tier, since the Premier section is split into upper and lower divisions. This is, on the face of it, less than impressive. But then, as shown in my previous post, we could field a complete and stronger team of u21s if we wanted to. Hard to judge how we are doing against other clubs unless we know how many of their best u21s they play in this league.

Crystal Palace’s under-21 side guaranteed their spot in the end of season play-offs by clinching the point they needed in a hard-fought encounter at Charlton Athletic.
The draw was not enough to secure the Eagles the Professional Development League 2 South title, but it was a step closer to topping the table and securing a home tie in the play-off semi-final. They will play Charlton again on Friday at home, in their penultimate game of the season.
Both sides went for the win from the off and it was the home team who took the lead, after just five minutes of play, with Charlton forward Karlan Ahearne-Grent firing low beyond Chris Kettings to open the scoring between the south London rivals.
Palace were not behind for long and immediately pressed for a way back into the crunch match, with Chung-Yong Lee going close from an ambitious effort. The winger’s strike crashed off the post and was cleared by the home side.
But a minute later, the South Korean leveled the scores with a low drive below Dillon Phillips in the Charlton goal.
Charlton again looked to press and Ahearne-Grent looked their most dangerous threat going forward, but his effort on 10 minutes flew well over the bar, however Owen Garvan then gave Palace the lead on 18 minutes, bagging from close range as the Eagles continued to push for the three points.
The lead didn't last long and the hosts were soon level, with Ahearne-Grent nodding home following a scramble in the Palace box.
Monlouis and Charles-Cook both had chances for the home side as the game approached the half hour mark, but both managed to blaze their efforts well over the crossbar.
Despite fashioning chances of their own, the Addicks struggled to deal with the elusive Lee, who drifted across the attacking midfield, popping up to cause them problems. He linked up well with Anderson and Gray, but lost his footing at the vital moment otherwise he could have had his second of the afternoon.
After the restart, Palace looked the more threatening, with both Lee and Gray finding themselves inches away from restoring the Eagles’ lead.
The South Korean bowed out on the hour mark having put in a superb debut display and was replaced by Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong. Fisayo Adarabioyo then replaced another Palace debutant, Michael Phillips, on 72 minutes and immediately looked to cause the home side problems.
Charlton pushed for the next goal and won a succession of corners, but Palace still looked threatening on the break particularly with Adarabioyo on the pitch.
After the first half goal-fest, the game slowed in the second period. Neither side managed to grab that decisive winner, though both pushed for it. It was a hard-fought clash and has set up an interesting second meeting between the two sides on Friday afternoon at the KNK Stadium.

An explosive first 45 minutes from table toppers Palace saw them beat Charlton thanks to a brace from Keshi Anderson and strikes from Kyle de Silva, Owen Garvan and Aaron Bissaka.
That gave the Eagles, who have already ensured top spot in the Professional Development League 2 table this season and a play-off berth, a four goal advantage after the break, but the Addicks did make the scoreline more respectable in the second period by pulling back a couple of goals.
The two sides played out a 2-2 draw earlier in the week but this game would be a much less close affair with Palace grabbing the lead just six minute in. Garvan got the ball on the edge of the area and gave it to de Silva, and the striker made a yard of space to squeeze a shot away and saw it clip the inside of the post before beating Jordan Beeney to continue score his 11th of the season.
Another man who has found a rich goalscoring vein is Garvan, and on 12 minutes he doubled the lead with his third in successive games. Palace won a free-kick in a central position 25 yards from goal and the Irishman stepped up to curl it over the wall, leaving Beeney helpless.
And the superb start for Palace continued as they added a third four minutes later when a poor backpass from Josh Staunton was too short for Beeney to reach, and Anderson sped in to round the keeper and score from a tight angle.
It should have been four on 25 minutes when the shaky Beeney fluffed a clearance straight to de Silva but with an open goal at his mercy he somehow managed to put the ball well over the bar, and soon after Jake Gray dragged an effort wide when Anderson won the ball off powerhouse Andre Bikey.
But with four minutes to go in the half, the fourth did arrive. Anderson weaved his way around the edge of the area but with space at a premium he laid the ball off to Gus Sow who hit a piledriver at Beeney, and he could only parry the ball out to the on-rushing Anderson who easily tucked in his second.
Left-back Jason Akiotu near got in on the act when in the first minute of the second half he cut inside from the flank and attempted a curler from range which whistled past the far post, but on 51 minutes Charlton pulled a goal back when former USA international Oguchi Onyewu headed powerfully in from a Rhys Browne corner.

Well done to the U21s for winning the Kent Senior Cup 1-0 against the Gills who played Seven first team players. We played a mixture of U21 s and U18s.
