Most teams do have some depth, though. I'd have been fine with a decent loan winger, for instance, simply as insurance. This is great, though: https://twitter.com/D_gibson4/status/297118057220956162
Basically said we did things right by adding just the player we needed, he said unlike QPR we didn't use the scatter gun transfer style and just buy anyone.
What is it with QPR and renegade forward men pegging their way down there on deadline day? Didn't Puncheon do exactly the same thing there under Warnock?
One of the reasons I used to like supporting Saints was that I though that we had less idiotic, clueless fans than other clubs. Having looked on Twitter and Facebook this evening, sadly that was a complete misjudgement. Of course it would have been nice to get some wide cover but there seems to be a group who think we should have shot Guly and that it was criminal to send De Ridder away. I take it they've seen no games this season. At all?
I've been up and down on my thoughts about our fans. Obviously looking at the FB group and Twitter hashtag is suicide inducing but there's a great lot of sensible people on here (a few not so sensible, but fine for the most part) and the main deciding factor is how the crowd as a whole acts. The way there was no booing against Everton made me see we don't have such a bad bunch, on the whole, especially compared to Chelsea. We'll see how long this continues, but I'm trying not to let the very vocal brigade of cretins on Twitter and Facebook taint my opinion of the supporters as a collective.
Very, very true, and as a result I should hold with my original thought process that as a rule we have a better fan than many. I just did the 'silly thing' and looked on Facebook - because of which I've got a headache from shaking my head so vigorously. I do agree though, this place also in general provides a voice of reason amongst the madness.
Facebook and Twitter do seem to provide a vehicle for the more extreme of any in society, not just football fans. I am constantly amazed by twerps who appear on TSW and UI, although even on those forums you will occasionally find the voices of reason, albeit hiding behind a layer of cynicism. NOT606 Southampton seems to be a bastion of sensible opinion, in comparison.
Yep...dullest transfer window in memory. However, there was a shining beacon of joy this January.....take a bow Peter Odemwingie...selflessly entertained the nation on an otherwise crap day!
Whilst the more realistic amongst us are reflecting on this transfer window, I feel we have another positive to look at. Jos Hooiveld has come in to replace Fonte, although I have always liked his attitude I was worried about his ability against the smaller and quicker forwards but he has proved he can perform at the highest level as per Man U game. That means we have four CBs that can do a good job!
