Happened in Serie B in Italy last season, a bunch of clubs were kicked out and the league went ahead with 17 teams or something, it’s a shame it wasn’t cleared up before season start, could have maybe kept Notts County in the league another team that’s treading water, or was anyway.

Bury clearly can’t go on, Bolton will likely be saved. It’s a real ****ing shame but it’s costing other teams now and it’s got to be dealt with.

The EFL have given both Bury and Bolton a deadline of 5pm on Tuesday to show that they have their finances in order, or face expulsion from the league.
Whether this is a final deadline or not remains to be seen.
 
What will happen about the Bolton results, will they still stand, so far they have played four, lost 3 and drawn 1, 0 goals scored and 12 against, yesterday Ipswich put five past them and went above us on goal difference, what a shambles.

All results are null and void so for example Ipswich lose 3 points and +5 from goal difference and the league reduced to 22 or 23 if one or both go under.

Thanks mate, that would be my hope but I can understand the view that the clubs loosing the points will not be too happy. But those games should not have gone ahead under the circumstances. The money market needs far stricter controls, and boardroom crime fully prosecuted. Cant see Boris agreeing any time soon. <laugh> .

Incredible to think two L1 teams will disappear very shortly. A huge sad state of affairs.

With the money from TV deals etc in the PL should there be a 'pot' to help those clubs in trouble?

I don't mean to pay the ridiculous salaries of the people that helped put them in that position, but to help keep the clubs going just long enough to get new investment.

To help pay the wages of the players/staff as it's not their fault. Similarly the fans are punished and it's not theirs either, they keep their beloved club which has been engrained into their lives for all their lives.

There is a lot of money in football nowadays and it's a huge shame that these lunatic owners are allowed to get away with it.

In Sweden they have the 51% rule, meaning the fans always owe the majority of the club to stop crappy owners/investors from doing such things

That’s my understanding of it from what people here tell me anyway.

Would be a shame to lose these two clubs. I feel for the fans, heartbreaking.

The blame can’t be put on the clubs at the top though, it’s a cop out.

These clubs were dragged down by individuals, there’s clear failings in these supposed ‘fit and proper’ tests that the EFL need to be made accountable for, how can they sign off a fella with no money buying an already debt riddled club for a quid?

I fear for Bolton. They’ve been given a 14 day extension but let’s not hide from it, they were rumoured be be £100million in debt even in the Premier League. They’ve gone from car crash to car crash of ownerships. They’ve never had the support to fill holes either, I can’t see how they can be made viable, I hope I’m wrong cos it’s a proper famous old club.

EFL peddling that ‘this hasn’t happened for many years’ is blanket bullshit. Teams have fell out of the league and folded. Some have recovered or been reborn but just cos they did it after losing league status doesn’t exonerate the EFL.

Chester happened, Darlo happened. Scarborough happened.

Notts County was last minute, Biry gone, Gateshead relegated due to financials.

You can’t have folk buying clubs for a quid. You can’t have a governing body allowing this. The EFL don’t come out of this with any credit, they have extended Bolton cos they are ****ting themselves not because there’s a queue of buyers.

We could have went, Pompey were on the brink, Luton survives by sheer and utter bloody mindedness and determination and deserve immense credit.

There’s a black hole opening up here and I’d speculate that league clubs start being ‘replaced’ by Premier League reserve sides so the EFL can milk a few quid.

It’s not Sky’s fault, not the FA’s fault who market a magnificent Premier League. It’s the responsibility of the folk who are supposed to govern these clubs. New owners should be forced to deposit a guarantee that covers the clubs season, not having them kick off with **** all.

Notts County could have stayed in the league, Barnet. You could have a domino effect because the EFL have had their heads firmly in the sand.

It’s a sad, sad day and I hope the people of Bury get a Phoenix club and come back over time.

Can't add anything to this mate, is just really sad for lots of towns, that could do without losing their club, and lots of fans who've done everything they can to support, but some nobheads have let their egos overtake reality and spoiled things for so many. Really disappointing and you're right it could have been and still could be us one day, hopefully things look more secure in the next week or two as per Smug

What I don't get is, why do these people buy these clubs? They must know the financials before they go into it, so what are they possibly expecting to get out without putting up any funds? Presumably they won't get anything from "asset stripping" as anything the liquidators make will have to be used to pay off debts?
