I don’t think that is correct Col. I saw a news item a while back that demonstrated how the virus sits on surfaces... although they did say the main way to catch was mouth and nose.

Listening to all the scientists etc on the news, they're convinced that this new variant will help spread the virus much, much quicker, which is why all of the UK and much of Europe are basically cancelling Christmas.
I'm a little stressed, as we were supposed to be visiting Mrs Rangercol's mum Christmas day, but that will mean driving in and out of a tier 4 area.
On the news tonight there were reports of police stopping people at the borders of tier 4.

I have gone shopping to Tesco's once a week ( and have been very careful)
I have seen my daughter and granddaughter since June...once a week
Until I saw Terry and Iain at the football 2 weeks ago ...I had not seen or been with anyone else for more than a fleeting second
I am not seeing anyone for next two weeks ( except hubbie of course).
In 2 weeks time ( assuming I am well...which I will be) I will start looking after my granddaughter again.. so her mum can go back to studying.

We have an interesting decision to make as a society. It’s expensive to run a health service aimed at the whole population which has the capacity to cope with something like this pandemic. But is that expense worth it given the economic grief we have seen and will see for several years because we have had to ‘protect the NHS’ and shut everything down. In other words do we build a health service which runs well below capacity (the target now is 85%, probably shift down to 70% or less) to cope with these high tides, a health service which will be stunningly expensive and inefficient?
I vote yes. And set controls so that governments don’t raid the NHS in cost cutting exercises.
It's Mrs Rangercol's mum, but still difficult, as she's not been well and feeling very down.
We originally thought she'd be alone Christmas day which would definitely have meant going and bollocks to it.
It now seems that her partner will be there too, so I reckon we won't go, as infecting them would be calamitous and very stupid on our part.

Unfortunately we can't quarantine ourselves in the same way.
Mrs Rangercol is working in a pre-school Tues and Wed and taking her daughter to the same place on those days, as they only have one car.
If her mum was alone as originally planned we'd have to go.
Now I don't think we will (or should).
Her Mum is going to be devastated though as she thinks it could well be her last Christmas with us, although there could easily be many more.

All with out prejudicing the community ats a whole. A fine juggling act.

Mate, it's a ****fest.
You can only do what you think is right, and rely on others to do the same (which is where it all falls down unfortunately).
You could go see her and everything be cool - but by taking that risk the consequences could be devastating. We're lucky in a way as our vulnerable parents both have their partners still with them so they won't be alone, which has made the decision a whole lot easier.
You won't be alone in having to make these choices, but that doesn't make it any easier.
