So after 2 long years of airport closures, red lists, vaccination delays and general cobblers from the UK government I am finally on the plane home, en route to Manchester. Booked endless compulsory pcr tests and Passenger Locator Forms despite being fully vaccinated same as the US and EU but GCC countries not applicable. My job gives me exemption from having to do this home quarantine luckily.

Looking forward to finally seeing my kids and a pint in my local. A pork pie would be nice too

Only back for a few days so no chance of seeing the West London Academy of Football play, will be back at Christmas so hopefully can get to LR and catch up with you old boys and Beth

Clearly it is not being taken seriously at all

So the anticipated and widely trailed boom in cases, hospitalisations and deaths expected in August, then fading away in September didn’t happen, but instead we have a slow but steady rise in cases, a more worrying increase in hospitalisations and rising, though still relatively low, numbers of deaths.

It’s not working as well as it should be. And we have now been overtaken in % of the population vaccinated by many countries in Europe, which, of course, started much later due to fannying around. And they have much lower daily case rates. I can only assume they also have more restrictions still in place.

If this continues, or worsens with the schools going back, I can see restrictions being reintroduced ‘to protect the NHS’.

Balls, it’s such a pain in the arse.

I'm very confused about the Gov plans to repeal Coronavirus laws. We are still very much in this and entering the most dangerous time very soon. Why would they remove their powers to act? Surely we still need all the options on the table, its not like things aren't already escalating, albeit slow-ish.

Covid passports (always hated that term) being scrapped for nightclubs and indoor events. Government have truly given up now haven't they?

Plan B for COVID controls includes introducing COVID passport checks for various events, including by my reading QPR home and away games.

It’s not clear whether the checks would be for everyone or for a sample of those attending, but Hoos has already said in his interview with Whittingham, that he doesn’t think we could get the staff or systems in place to do it.

Even if the club could physically get a system in place it would inevitably add to delays getting in the ground and, ironically, raise the risk by getting large groups of people getting crushed into a small space while they wait (the crush getting into the Millwall game when the turnstiles were crap is by far the riskiest environment I’ve been in since this crap started).

Not a criticism of either the policy (though it would be handy to have some metrics declared so we would know when Plan B might be enforced) or the club (can’t afford to plan for every eventuality and recruiting and training for a short term (hopefully) once or twice a fortnight job will be impossible), but in these circumstances I don’t think I’d bother going. And I suspect the club would limit attendance as well, and reintroduce the ballot system for ST holders.

I think I read somewhere that the government had now set a limit of 10,000 (down from the previous 20,000) at events for people to need a COVID passport or proof of vaccination.
    Not sounding great

Latest decision poll in my house is as follows :

Daughter 15 years old, hasn’t decided on having vaccine and was more interested in latest Tic-Toc and Harry and Meghan

Twin 1, 12 years old, not having vaccine due to the fact he doesn’t like needles

Twin 2, 12 years old, having vaccine just to prove to his brother that he is braver and not scared of needles

Told them it’s ultimately their decision and didn’t try to sway them one way or the other.

    Good question G.
In my opinion, and it’s only my opinion, I’d be happy either way (bit of a cop out I know).
If they really think they should have it for their own benefit then I’d be cool with that and if it makes them feel somewhat ‘safer’ then great.
However I’m not really certain it’s necessary for them to have it due to the fact that the chances of them getting extremely ill with Covid is minimal and it seems we as a nation are vaccinating the young to protect others, not themselves.
Seems harsh to put such a burden on kids like mine when they really aren’t, again in my opinion, mature enough to weigh up the risks/benefits to themselves.

Yeah, it’s really tricky with 12 year olds especially. Probably out of selfishness (not wanting to isolate if they tested positive, or passed it on to me despite jabs) I’d urge them to get it, but there is little or nothing in it for them except notionally protecting old gits.

But that’s it mate……I personally would feel out of order getting them to do something like this, purely for my own benefit.
It’s a hard one for sure

Recycling the most deadliest virus in history seems to be the preferred disposal method.

Here in the land of Lockdowns, in July this year, our beloved Premier of Queensland locked the state down because, their was one teenager with Covid. Many businesses had to shut and many more were not allowed to see their sick loved ones. She screamed black & blue why we needed to shutdown, meanwhile, in true Labour fashion, the state is going broke with record debt.

Move forward to this week, we now have a rash of 10 plus cases, with some unabled to be traced but there’s no chance of a lockdown, because Queensland was awarded the NRL grand final.
This is the first time ever, a grand final has been played away from Sydney. The match will be this Sunday in Brisbane.

It seems that hosting a major sporting event is much more important than throwing the state into an immediate lockdown, like we had to have for one case in July. Everyone knows she will call a lockdown straight after the grand final.

The Premier is an absolute imbecile whose arrogance is second to none.
