My wife is a corporate communications professional. When she saw the Stay Alert message she said they’ve just asked their comms people to come up with a new slogan without giving them any objectives, reasons, strategy, or intent. And it shows.

Literally meaningless.

I saw someone say it’s what you’d expect from an episode of The Apprentice.

It's not meaningless - it means keep your eyes open for pesky little viruses that are 0.125 microns in diameter, and make sure if you see them to report them to the police.

So to me....if the message
STAY AT HOME

is replaced by the message

STAY ALERT

It means I can now leave my home, as long as I am alert to the risks

So I can go to see my grandaughter, who has also isolated for 6 weeks so we are both OK
I can drive up to London and walk through the park from my other daughter.
I can drive to the coast and walk along the beach.
I hope all the shops open, so I can buy non essential items too ( I need treats for the pet rabbits, they have scoffed them all in isolation too)

....obviously I will be alert and will try and keep my distance and wash my hands.

Basically a free for all. Staying on course for the herd immunity programme. Why they pretended otherwise is beyond me.

And stamp on them if they haven’t run away?

You really don't listen to the broadcasts do you Stan? Shame on you

Stamping don't work...What they "do not like up 'em" (c) Dad's Army) is soap.
I have a squeezy bottle full of Fairy Liquid. When I see one, it is getting a full blast whilst I sing Happy Birthday twice

As long as she’s alert too it’s fine. Maybe.

All will be revealed by our dear leader this afternoon.

No, no, no, no. Robert Generic told Andrew Marr you stay alert by staying at home. Alert means Home in corona speak.

Amazon will be running out of water pistols soon then?

Call me unpatriotic (and I’m sure someone will do just that pretty soon) but I’m getting just a tiny sense of collective cynicism about the governments ‘new direction’. It’s a bit daft really, because this country, according to the news, is the one where the majority of people of all age groups are more concerned about beating the virus than the damage to the economy, elsewhere - US, Sweden, Germany - its much more evenly balanced. Any ‘loosening’ is due to pressure from Tory back benchers, and their unlikely fellow traveller, Stroller.:emoticon-0103-cool:
