There probably were deaths classified as 'Pneumonia' rather than the virus which hadn't been identified at that point, it only provoked panic once it was out of control in China...
Yeah, possibly. It still didn’t lead to ‘excess deaths’ until much later though. Perhaps it was here but in tiny numbers. Although half a dozen people on here, which is a pretty small pool, felt that they and family members had it ages ago. All very odd.

My missus definitely had the classic early symptoms around New Year, her cough was unlike anything she'd had before for about five days but passed without further problem. I had it milder just after her and I am prone to coughs but it passed as well. Roll on an antibody test...

My wife wonders if she had it and so did both our families back in December / January.

I can't see this myself as:
a) we have a case zero in the UK
b) if one doctor in Wuhan could see a spike in Pneumonia and suspect something then surely other doctors around the world would too if it was prevalent earlier than known.
c) the NHS would have been in meltdown with an unchecked spread for months before the recognised outbreak.

It seems a popular theory but one for conspiracists for me.

My layman guess has it as a potent but non deadly and unrelated seasonal virus.

The fact China went out of their way to cover it up until it couldn't be contained is where the element of doubt creeps in, if it was treated as flu-like for even two weeks the spread would have started...

It certainly doesn’t add up. I have no doubt that people were ill with the classic virus symptoms, but where were the hospitalisations and deaths?

It's the exponential spread if left unchecked that makes me doubtful that it was here earlier.

There is the revisited post mortem in France which does raise a doubt the other way though. I can't explain that.

It just doesn't sit right for me though China would probably love some doubt on the origins of this.

Apparently the address tonight isn’t live. This **** really doesn’t work weekends.
Course it isn't live. Those who control boris cant afford him to speak live or ever face any questions. He's a complete buffoon. We have an absolute comical fool as our leader! He would likely make some racist comment about the deaths in the black Asian ethnic communities

Prediction.

5 minutes explaining that the new slogan is the old slogan followed by a fight them on the beaches chant and then another 5 minutes saying we should avoid beaches.
