Earlier today I saw an article damning Levy for derailing our summer transfer plans by putting our scouting team on leave as part of the furloughing of staff

Oh for ****'s sake, it's open season for ragebait articles about the club now

And, of course, it got the intended result - rather than anyone pausing to thinks that, unless we're signing someone for Dynamo Minsk, who exactly are we scouting with basically every league on the planet either suspended or in their off-season?

But no, thinking is for "happy clappers" and that shouldn't be allowed...

One section of the statement really needs highlighting, which I will

Against this backdrop, football issues had paled into insignificance but in the last few days the sport has come to the fore again, and members have been in contact with us to ask about our own Club’s statement regarding salary reductions and the furloughing of around 40% of the Club’s non-playing staff

Two things immediately spring to mind about this part

1.) The fact that 40% of the club staff have been furloughed, rather than the 100% that it was assumed to be, clearly makes the situation different

2.) We can add "Forgetting to mention that a section of the club's non-playing staff, not all the club's non-playing staff, were being furloughed" to the list of things we cocked up with this whole shambles

...hence this part

We have strongly recommended that the Club explains the detail and nuance to supporters with far more clarity than it has currently, and we hope it will take that advice

I genuinely hope so...that it was a case of screwing up the facts...wouldn't wanna see who ever screwed up lose their job...but a mistake is not a cruel or disrespectful way to treat the lowest paid staff.

As noted above, the THST have outright said furloughing applies to 40% of non-playing staff

Of course, there's still idiots toeing the "The club should slash the players' salaries" line as they're too thick to see that the PFA are the issue, not Levy

And let's be honest here, this is why we're being thrown to the wolves: because it's easy to paint us as Big, Bad Tottenham because, while blame can certainly be aimed at the club for managing to omit such an important detail in the statement, it reveals that journalists can't be bothered to actually follow the story and instead just asked whoever was on top of the dogpile what they thought the story was - and, as noted, those on the dogpile can't comprehend the PFA's role in this mess

In summary :

PR eff-up (more so given the known Spurs haters in the lamestream media) .


The club now need to spell it out in layman terns exactly how much particular
staff are losing in wages each week as a result of the current actions.

Thats not what the news suggests. Theres an exact number on reduced salary (550) with some of them because of furlough is how i read it

Daniel Levy has called on Premier League managers and players to help English football deal with the financial problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic by accepting lower pay after revealing Tottenham have reduced the wages of their 550 non-football staff by 20%, in some cases by placing them on furlough.

Also i'm sure players can go against PFA, even if its re-negotiating a new contract (this isn't just the spurs players). If Eddie Howe can get a paycut, and juan mata can go around giving 1% of his salary away i can't see why players can't get together and do what they want

The THST state it's 40% of the staff and are requesting the club explain the situation a hell of a lot better than they have

However, people have got it into their heads that all of our non-playing staff have been furloughed, hence every tweet the club's put out since is met with a chorus of "pEy Your sTaHff" - yet we are paying the majority of them, but the statement did a cack-handed job of explaining that, just as people seem to be blind to the section regarding the PFA et al and it all turns into the same old leVeE owT bollocks

All 20 Premier League clubs will meet via video and it is accepted by all that there is no hope of professional games being played immediately after the current 30 April deadline.

The Premier League could shift the date back into May or opt to follow Spain and France, who have shut down their leagues for an indefinite period.

Italy have talked of Serie A returning in late May, but that seems optimistic.

Pushing the date back would allow Premier League clubs the chance to offer their stadiums and medical staff to the National Health Service, knowing they would not be required in the short term.

That would at least correct some of the negative publicity that has accompanied news that four clubs, including Tottenham, are already using the government's furlough scheme to compensate laid-off workers by up to £2,500-a-month, despite their players and manager Jose Mourinho, some of whom earn in excess of £100,000-a-week, remaining on full pay.

Let's name one of four clubs and choose Spurs. But we won't mention the fact that the Tottenham Hotspur stadium is already being used and has already been offered for more usage:

We're the only one of 'The Big 6' to transfer responsibility for its non-playing staff to the taxpayer, having been unbelievably profitable in the last 2 years. Yes, we have enormous debt but our wages to income ratio is very sensible and if we had any common sense, we'd have realised that the press would go hunting for us on this and rightly so.

I don't care that others, like Newcastle or Norwich, are doing the same as us or that we're doing good elsewhere. Not paying the non-playing staff was and is a **** decision and will rightly haunt us for a long, long time...

All this money saving/pinching over the years with constant pats on the back from a certain group of the fanbase yet here we are on a rainy day and our club is at the forefront of an embarassing decision which stinks of saving more pennies

So out of curiosity, where's the teeth-gnashing at Bournemouth furloughing their staff after previously promising "No workers will be 'financially disadvantaged' by pandemic"?

The fact that they're currently basking in the warm glow of positive PR because Eddie Howe took a wage cut, even though they quietly furloughed staff at the same time to the point I'm sure a few of you reading this will be surprised to hear that they've done it (after all, the BBC article doesn't mention them by name) only goes to show what's really going on here - namely we're being used to focus attention away from things such as, oh I don't know, the government's first shipment of ventilators to deal with the Covid-19 crisis is the grand total of thirty of them to cover the entire ****ing country

Why else do you think Norwich and Newcastle aren't getting **** flung at them by their ex-coaches and players?

Because you have done it worse than Bournemouth. They are taking government money but at least topping up their furloughed staff with the 20%.

One is Norwich and Delia Smith.

The other is Mike Ashley. More than happy to throw **** at both and i'm pretty sure Mike Ashley gets far more **** than Levy. The fact that we have to even compare Levy to Ashley should be a travesty

And no, Ashley is not getting more ****: we're plastered on the front pages, Newcastle are mentioned in the second or third paragraph - which effectively means Newcastle get away scot free because the loudest people never read past the headline to begin with

Because Bournemouths furloughed staff are getting 100% of their wages whereas your furloughed staff are only getting 80%?
