It's been widely reported that it was £250k, as was the Ipswich bid that was also rejected. Obviously, we've no way of knowing for certain, but these things have a tendency to leak out, all our deals have been 'undisclosed' this season, but we still know pretty much what they all were.

We can moan about missing out on Townsend but if he really went for £700k, given the tight funding, I'm not sure that would have been a good use of what little cash super nige has to spend.

Butterfield lives in Leeds and his wife is from Hull.
I know his wife's parents.
He was on loan at that massive club Sheff Wed last season but didn't do much for them.
He is on a massive salary at Derby so will only be coming here if Derby pay most of it.

Given that we had a 40% sell on clause with Townsend would we have had to pay the £700000 or £4200000 with the 40% deducted not sure how the 40% clause would have worked if at all, if we'd bought him.

The source for that Butterfield story is garbage, it's just someone on Twitter who claims to be an ex-agent, but has barely any followers after running transfer stories for a year.
