I just never understood the link people draw up between ability and age. They come out with daft things like "well at 31 he's probably not going to make 90 minutes" or "he's over the hill now".

Is it an inate desire for sell on fees? We buy a youngster, he comes good and we sell him on? Can we not do that with somebody who is 28? If so, why are people even thinking about selling a player before he's signed a contract?

Ha ha that's nearly as unbelievable as bruce saying Campbell didn't want to come back here because he didn't want to spoil what he'd done here before.
I wonder if they actually believe we believe them?
I might ring work on Wednesday and say I'm jaded after 2 days work....see how that goes down

Daryl Murphy at Ipswich would be a good example of an older player increasing in value. He'd previously looked like a donkey, then last season at Ipswich he had a great season, all of a sudden he's worth a fortune, and he's 32!

It only works that way though, everyone says a goalkeeper doesn't really come into their own until late 20's to mid 30's. If age is such an issue why are we looking at a 22yr old goalie, that obviously needs a lot of development and won't be near the first team for the next 7-8yrs.

At the end of the day if you're good enough, it doesn't matter how old they are.
