He had a 50% relegation clause so his wages are really not that anymore. I can't see us selling him for 3 mill just to drop that type of wage off the bill. Im bad with player values but if long was worth 12 even jelly with his bad knees should go for 8 I would think.
Only a tickler would look into that thinking it actually means anything, it's drivel and tosh.
Because he has a year left on his current contract. If anyone deserves to be in the PL it is James Chester. I'm positive he'll be in the PL next season for a top half team - Swansea maybe?
I'd rather he stayed but 3mil for a 30-yearold who might only manage a half-seasons worth of games doesn't sound too bad to me. But there again I never thought Long was worth 12 mil either...
I imagine we'll have an agreement with him that he can leave on a free at the end of the season if we dont win promotion back to the PL. A big gamble on our part.
It's not an agreement at all- we won't have a say in the matter if he won't renew his contract.
Chester's a good lad and he's made all the right noses, but if a half decent Premier League club come in for him, he'll want to go.
I just don't think we'll let him go. We've never let a player go that we've wanted to keep under the Allams, but I guess there's a first time for everything.
In that we have persuaded him to stay for the season rather than abandon ship during this window...
Do contracts run to July? So the next year of all the players contracts start 1st July? It'll be a big motivating factor seeing their income drop by half. When that reality sinks in a lot will be pressuring their agents for a move. Fact of life sadly
As long as we can a decent fee (£5m+) then I'd regrettably let him leave, but that would only be if it was to a decent side e.g. Newcastle/Swansea/Everton/West Ham
He was worth more to us. Look what £10m bought us? 4 goals and a tattooed Uruguayan waste of space.
Definitely take 3M for Jelavic. Need more assurances over how many games he's gonna play, he's never fit. Put it towards getting somebody else in who, barring any bad luck should be able to play virtually a full season without any issues.

I agree. We splashed out last time, and it's even more important for us to do so this time - our first signing needs to make a statement. It should be one that makes the players we're trying to keep hold of believe we're serious about going for promotion. Norwich did it right by splashing out on 2 upper-Championship quality strikers last summer. £4.5million for both Jerome and Grabban was good business though, to be honest.
