The italian leagues are awfully weak now and they play a very different way to us. He wasn't given a run in the side because of his performances and probably how he was in training. When he did play he was virtually non-existent apart from continually missing sitters.

He was a bad buy but we didn't have much time in the window left and we'd been turned down by other targets

Just out of interest, how did all the premier league sides fair in both European competitions last season?

All entitled to our own opinions and I point out his flaws as well as his potential so it was hardly a biased post.

Also Juventus made it to the Champions League final beating lowly Real Madrid to get there... The Italian league is improving again.

For me it's a case of what came first. The egg or the chicken. He needed game time to gain confidence and he didn't get that. Other players last season were just as ineffectual in their role but featured much more prominently.

You can judge that league by Juventus. Recently it has become one of the worst of the major leagues in Europe. It's the style though as well as the quality, I saw a fair bit of it last season and it was slow and boring to say the least

Ah so you will have seen bottom side and already relegated Parma, where players hadn't been paid all season, beat champions league runners up Juventus.

It's only the premier league where anyone can beat anyone you know....

Actually I saw mainly the Milan sides, Torino, Roma, Fiorentina and Napoli as well as Juve. The Europa league is difficult to judge as half the teams don't take it seriously. Maybe it's just the style of play but I find it incredibly slow and boring.

Really? Interestingly I thought the dangling carrot of a Champions League place made everybody take it seriously. How wrong I was....

Would that be the same Aston Villa who scored the second lowest number of goals in the Prem last season?

More like the same Villa who completely changed their playstyle under Sherwood and scored a lot more goals by being direct, but deliberately miss the context if you like.

What with all the stats available these days , any stats out there that document how many clear cut chances we created last season? Would be interesting

I think were lacking a playmaker who can score goals too, koren used to fulfill the role, snodgrass was bought to provide this too but obviously got injured, ramirez on loan as well as ben arfa were brought in to counter snodgrass's injury but both didnt really work out, next question who will provide goals and assists until snodgrass is back?

I would have tried to get Hoolahan as a part of the Brady deal - he'd have been ideal. Maybe Bruce has eyes on a Midfielder to come in? Ridiculous that we still don't know the outcome re Livermore.

Really? He scored 4 goals in 15 in the Premier League for us which isn't bad, but quite often he missed absolute sitters, do you not remember Trencin at home? I'll refresh your memory... (2/3 sitters in this game)

Long was all hustle and bustle, nothing like Hernandez. Long was the perfect type of striker to fit our dour negative approach to the game, Hernandez wasn't.

Jelavic was as bad for Everton under Martinez as Hernandez was for us. Is Jelavic **** as well? Or just in a team playing a way that didn't suit him?

Long missed the odd chance like Hernandez, although both are normally decent finishers but that's where the similarities end. Hernandez doesn't have the appetite to score or even get into the game. Long and Jelavic both have that in abundance and for that reason they're good strikers in this country and Hernandez isn't.

Yeah think we agreed on hoolahan the other week, leon brittons another and barry bannan dimunitive little players who can unlock defences its a huge hole we have in our team at the minute, you watch games and we hardly make clear cut chances from through balls or balls into the channels for strikers to run onto. I know hudds was ****e last year but id be really tempted to give him an advanced playmaking role as hes got the eye for the pass hes just never up with play to execute it, id scrap this deep lying playmaker role bruce has given him as its just not working, i think he struggles to move up with the pace of a counter attack once hes given the ball to a teammate, why not have him further up the pitch to rcieve the ball and supply the strikers? . Other than that its hopefully buy somebody as it seems to be getting overlooked, its okay buying fancy strikers and hoping theyl produce something out of nothing but be so much easier if we went out and finally solved the playmaker problem
