This is like going to watch an unfunny comedian or a band that can`t sing then forcing yourself to laugh or clap so as not to offend him/her, we humans pay to be entertained and if the act doesn`t deliver the goods then we the audience are surely not to blame.
supporting a football club and being a football fan is absolutely nothing like watching a comedian or a band. and you know it. funnily enough, its those people who claim that they want to be 'entertained' that are the ones constantly moaning about the fair on offer. that is because you support the wrong team. in fact, you should keep switching team to the one who does entertain you. i'd guess liverpool would be a good place to start this season but it could be someone else next time around. watching norwich isn't entertaining quite a lot of the time because we aren't very good quite a lot of the time.
i was once asked by an american what 'norwich city are like' and i simply replied 'we are quite good for one year in five'. i think i may have exaggerated a tad - its more like ten
There´s always been plenty of others on here much better at abuse than me, surgeryman , never seen the need for it, and anyway it always seems to weaken, rather than strengthen ones argument. Whatever we all might think of what´s gone on, one thing is certain, the next appointment, wherever we are, has got to be be the right one.
This is the problem (I know you didn't mean it in absolute terms), how the hell can anyone know. There has to be the right basic fit between the ideals of the club and the manager, and this will probably exclude quite a few good managers. How long will a manager be given to get it right? My experience of watching Norwich is that the team plays pretty poor football most of the time, and I don't expect that will ever change. ah well the joys of NCFC
Regardless of Pyjamas lowly opinion of the club, there is no reason at all that a club of our size cannot play reasonably good football. None whatsoever. It takes some long term thinking and the correct person in control of the football side. The club should be targetting an ethos of skills rather than physicality. It needs to run right through the club and the truth is it is the opposite. I bet we do not bring a single recognised passer of the ball through our youth set up to the first team in the next 10 years. Even if we don't have the players now the target needs to go that way, they need to focus on passing and movement and confidence in making their own decisions.
The thing is supers is that when we were 2-0 down if Hughton had have been in charge, he would have changed nothing. Adams changed his tactics to adapt to what Rogers had done and the team performed. Hence the crowd appreciated the effort by the players ( they rarely did that under Hughton) That is the fundamental flaw in your argument for me . The manager changing tactics to bring the best out of the players was justly rewarded by the fans. (although I respect your viewpoint).
Agree, quick passing and movement as Liverpool did will create chances. Under Hughton ( West Brom was a classic) we were turgid and could not break them down. Look at Liverpool in the first half, quick incisive play. We lack quality to do that. Look at Bradley Johnson. Without doubt he can put in a shift and break up play but how often have we all commented on his lack of passing quality? He is not alone and our failure to do simple things is a major issue get needs sorting wherever we are playing next season.
I was there in Lg1 watching us play Superman so don`t try to tar me with the Glory hunter brush mate, if as you say sport is not supposed to be entertaining then i will have to agree to disagree on this one. The point i made was i cheer and clap when my team shows commitment and pride, i go apeshit when they score and i`m pretty sure this is how it is supposed to be.
appreciate that he changed tactics and even accept that hughton wouldn't have been so rapid in his response (though equally i doubt he'd have set up in the kamikaze manner adams did), but you miss my point. the crowd responded and got behind the team the moment that second goal went in - not because adams had changed it (he hadn't at the time), but because the fans decided to back the team in difficult circumstances. that rarely happened before, if ever.
err, you've also missed my point and gone off on a tangent. sport can be entertaining but it isn't always and football fans are a special breed who aren't like regular customers. if the product at norwich, arsenal, cheltenham, wherever is bad, the punters don't stop supporting them. they stick with them. supporters support - there's a clue in the word no norwich fan is a glory hunter - if they are they aren't very good at it!
I am glad you are not giving the half time team talks at Carrow Road Supers or the players would all be on Prozak. We are Norwich we are not entertaining or very good just go out there and play to the levels expected of you, it doesn`t matter if you lose we can`t expect any better.
Well just ask yourself the question why? The life and excitement was sucked out over the two years before, its been like it from day one. Hughton had full backing when he was announced. There were very few who were sceptical (me obviously being one of them). Hughton would have retained full backing IF he was good enough to change his attitude. He wasn't so he didn't.
No I got your point but I disagree with it I'm afraid. Norwich fans having been backing the team for a long time. I have not seen the sort of thing you refer to until this season and my point us there was a reason for it. And even during this season the fans have tried to lift the side but with no response. I am not a boo boy and never will but can understand it as it sometimes feels like it is the only way the fans can get things across. I was there at the Charlton game when the chants for Roeder out went up ( probably the last time I saw the fans reacting like West Brom). I assume you apply your same point to that time also? Perhaps it is the sign of the times and how staying in this money focussed division affects everyone. Ask Moyes. I just feel blaming the fans is an easy thing to do. Why not moan at like I said three sides of the stadium who rarely chant? The fans are there through thick and thin. Managers and players are not. W
i think comparing us to liverpool is a little unfair at the moment - they are playing sublime football right now and have some top players. we have some half decent players at this level and a few who aren't quite up to scratch but we could have been playing better football this season than we have. there have been the odd glimpses but its mainly been stodgy stuff. but as carrabuh says, unless you mould your whole club into a philosophy then you won't see much of a change in style and even then it will take some time. we need a long term plan at the club, a footballing mantra that means if a manager leaves, the new man carries on that philosophy. swansea were doing that although they've abandoned it for some reason.
i have seen and heard little support throughout the season and i am far from alone in that. i know for a fact i've not been as good a fan as i normally am - getting physically abused at a game didn't exactly help though its more to do with my personal life which means football is a very low priority right now.
