I seem to remember that a lot of us pointed out the very dubious nature of Evans's conviction for rape way back. Plenty of posters got gaught up in the media hatchet job that ensued with brigades of self-righteous politicians and celebs like Jessica Ennis baying for the guy's blood. It wasn't enough that he was convicted and served time, his career had to be taken from him too.

Now we know that the misgivings some of us had were well-founded and the strength of his case is to be bolstered by new evidence that's come to light. For that reason the Court of Appeal has ordered a retrial. The only downside is that conviction rates on retrials is high because the prosecution witnesses have already had a dry run.

But whatever the case we can only hope that a fair and impartial jury hear ALL the evidence this time. I don't know whether he's guilty or not but from what I read of the case the original conviction was very, very dodgy.

Kiff you have to wonder how he can get a fair trial now. there cant be many people in the country who haven't heard of the case or who have formed opinions after the first trial. To get a complete impartial jury I would say is almost impossible. information regarding the incident and hearing is readily available and with the best will in the world members of the new jury will look at it or have looked at it.

I feel some sort of jury or panel, formed by either members of the legal profession would make any retrial much fairer, where they would look at the facts and make any decision based on those facts, not what is in the media.

I fully expected this outcome, having looked deeply at the new evidence, the girl is a chancer, and it looks like he will get acquitted as long as he gets a fair trial, which will be difficult knowing the high profile of the case, and a big thanks to the hacker, who exposed the girl, and the bent police in this prosecution........<ok>

Maybe we should ship some immigrants in who know nothing about the case then.........
Great idea Stereo. I can guarantee if they're from a Muslim country they would be amazed that only one woman can give evidence against an alleged rapist - it usually requires four men to back up a woman where they come from. :)

The whole thing smacks of unfairness to me. The current DPP Alison Saunders who is head of the CPS has basically set out a mandate so that if a woman makes a complaint against a man a trial is almost inevitable. She has a track record of doing this. If you remember, Dave Lee Travis was acquitted and they came at him again when it was discovered that he "brushed against" someone inappropriately in 1973 and it "ruined" the woman's life.<doh>

This is the same body that refuses to prosecute hateful Muslims who hold up banners saying "Death to those who insult Islam" but who take kids to court for saying nasty things on Twitter. I worked for them many years ago and the place is rife with political correctness and a reluctance to take hard-nosed, difficult decisions because they are terrified of being criticised. The number of times I've been forced into prosecuting no-hope cases because it involved "racial hatred" beggars belief. Evidential standards don't come into it. A complete waste of public money.

I don't know the truth about the Evans case but it always was dodgy and I hope that whatever happens he gets a fair trial. If it's a female jury he has a chance - they tend to be a lot more sceptical in those type of cases. Us men are softies. <laugh>

I see his missus/girlfriend showing a united front........I wonder why ? Money wouldn't be the reason would it?

You do realise that as we speak he's innocent don't you? <doh> That kinda happens when a conviction is quashed. What an idiot.

He was found guilty <doh> he is appealing only so he is still regarded as guilty.....wake up you wally and think before you make your self look a dick....<laugh>

<laugh> You do realise what I used to do for a living, right?

He is NOT "regarded as guity" at all. The conviction was QUASHED. Therefore HE WAS NOT CONVICTED. Therefore he does NOT HAVE A CONVICTION.

I give you credit though, you sound so authoritative on a whole range of subjects you obviously know **** all about. Now you are effectively trying to tell a plumber he can't change a washer. You're still funny though. Mainly because we all laugh AT you, not with you. <laugh>

I don't understand how in this day and age a woman we now legally have the following scenarios:

  • A drunk woman who says Yes means No
  • An equally drunk man always means Yes
  • How a threeway results in one man guilty, one man innocent, one woman a victim
  • How a witness outside of a room saying that he couldn't hear if consent was given or not becomes no consent was given on a guilty first premises
It all seems very misandrist.

If you look at the original thread, I was never happy with this conviction, it was unsafe to say the least, and some man hater of a women's lib got on his case, she was vicious and unrelenting on social media, the bitch caused no end of issues, just glad he gets to present all the facts about this girl he was supposed to have raped including her tweets of her 'Big payday'.........<ok>

He is as guilty as sin so don't trivialize what he was found guilty of doing, What if it happened to your daughter or niece.....We all know why he is appealing because he has realized he has ruined his career and cant find a good club that will take him on.......Yes i do realize you sell the big issue part time when your not on here talking rubbish....<laugh>
