I seem to remember that a lot of us pointed out the very dubious nature of Evans's conviction for rape way back. Plenty of posters got gaught up in the media hatchet job that ensued with brigades of self-righteous politicians and celebs like Jessica Ennis baying for the guy's blood. It wasn't enough that he was convicted and served time, his career had to be taken from him too.
Now we know that the misgivings some of us had were well-founded and the strength of his case is to be bolstered by new evidence that's come to light. For that reason the Court of Appeal has ordered a retrial. The only downside is that conviction rates on retrials is high because the prosecution witnesses have already had a dry run.
But whatever the case we can only hope that a fair and impartial jury hear ALL the evidence this time. I don't know whether he's guilty or not but from what I read of the case the original conviction was very, very dodgy.
