Cairney

well you must have forgotten some horrendous games he's had where he was basically invisible... he will always be a "what if" player. He needs to get his head straight and realise the opportunity he has to make a name for himself in football. Unfortunately he seems unwilling to pass that barrier.

But is that anything more than a reputation? Someone at some point decided he was this lazy type who thinks he's a star and everyone's bought it but how many people have any reason to believe this and how many just go along with the popular view? I think he's been one of the better players in most games he's played. I really can't see why he isn't a key figure in our team.

We had a similar debate after the Southampton game where myself and a few others were in a minority that thought Cairney was one of the best players, but others thought he was awful. I think he's another one of these 'easy target' players like Garcia or Cullen.

'like Garcia and Cullen' - ffs - come on Garc was an integral part of our 07/08 promotion season.

Cullen on the other hand is a player that just needs to go out on loan to a Club at Lg2 level (sorry he's already done that and failed) and prove he has some ability - to date I doubt that..

I completely agree about Garcia I think he's a good player, my point is that certain players like those two are easy targets. Whenever we lose it's Cullen's fault for not turning it around in his 2-minute cameo and Garcia was blamed by 3 or 4 fans on Humberside after the Milwall game who probably didn't even go. It's just a thing with City fans, certain players become easy targets. I've actually been pleasantly surprised by the praise Garcia has got tonight.

Garcia always gives hundred percent no matter what he's a good pro and a good example to the young lads we have.

It's only some of the new fans who hadn't seen him in CCC and muppets that think if you're a footballer you should be able to play anywhere that really got into the Garcia bashing to start with. Most people while we were in the PL I think just said he's **** up front because he's not a lone striker, so can we stop playing him out of position.

Bit unfair that on Cullen as I believe he got injured fairly early in his loan period, though there are other players I would like to see before him on the bench.

Garcia was probably our best player at Millwall until Rosey was injured and he moved to the back. Even then he wasn't culpable for the defeat.

I know Cairney divides opinion with City fans but I thought today was another game that showed he should be one of the first names on the team sheet. His quality in general play is just a cut above everyone else, the way he moves the ball about and keeps the pace going when other players would spend hours letting the defence organise before eventually passing back to Mannone.

Evans seems to have taken Cairney's place for most of the season just because he runs more, but what's the point in running the length of the pitch to get on the end of a pass only to miss from 5 yards out, twice!? McKenna does his role very well when he plays but he plays incredibly deep as others have pointed out and it doesn't help us attacking. I think Cairney, apart from offering us a free kick/long distance goal threat just makes our passing miles better when he is in the team.

It's way overexaggerated that he is so lazy, he actually does get involved in defending even though it obviously isn't one of his strengths. It just seems to me like he always gets dropped when we lose even though he plays well, he seems to be the easiest player to drop and replace him with someone who just runs a lot. We need to give him a proper run in the team and let him show us once again what quality he has.

I slated Cairney last summer and said it would be his last chance this season. I believe he has improved greatly this season. His defensive cover and tackling is way better. I don't think we use him enough to take freekicks near goal as they are one of his stronger points. I am happy to keep him and think he will continue toimprove. He already hasagood amount of experience foe someone his age.

You're forever making that accusation, personally, I resent it, I'm more than capable of deciding what I think of a player, regardless of the views of others and I think that's true of the vast majority on here. Just because you have a different opinion to others, it doesn't mean you're right, or that they haven't got a mind of their own ffs.

For the record I usually think he's naff.

Yesterday he was OK but one game doesn't change my mind. Personally I hope we sell him in the summer and bring someone else in.

The fact he tweeted he was injured for a recent game (was it Cov?) when he was actually dropped but he couldnt face 'the embarrassment' tells you everything you need to know about Tom.

Cairney has talent, no doubt. The problem is that he doesn't do enough. He had, at best, a reasonable game yesterday. He is currently not as good as Evans or Mckenna - and that's why Nick picks them ahead of Tom if they're available.

Agreed. Bashing one particular player annoys me but when they aren't even that bad like Garcia it's just daft.

I don't know if I'm being misunderstood but I'm not having a go at those two at all. I'm saying fans are wrong to blame them all the time, and the same goes for Cairney albeit to a lesser extent.

I think you've misunderstood me there. I'm talking about this reputation he has as a big time Charlie. Everyone says he's so arrogant and 'thinks he's made it' but how many people know that?

I'd be embarrassed if I was getting dropped after every game the team lost for no obvious reason.

From what I have met of Tom on placement at city, hes a good lad, deffo talent but thinks hes bigger than he is needs to be brought down to earth a fair bit and then he really could be a good player and i dont think pearson did that but i think nicky will. IMO i would start him most matches in 3 CM with Koren and Mckenna/Evebs

I'd agree that it should be one of McKenna or Evans and not both. I like them but our record for goals with that midfield pairing is abysmal. Obviously it isn't just down to those 2 but it can't help that one player stays in his own half for the whole game and the other one rarely gets forward and misses 2 sitters when he does. If we can sign someone better than Cairney then great but these players are really rare and I can't see us getting someone of Cairney's class for free.

As it was clear for all to see we missed Mckenna, just i think Barmby will find it hard to drop Evans even if Cairney and Mckenna deserve a chance together.

I don't think we missed him as much as everyone probably thought we would. Middlesbrough were very much a hit, hoof and hope side. We only seemed to get caught out when our slow (bar Chester) back line was playing a high line and Emnes got his runs right.

Cairney should have been used more, particularly in the last couple of months when McKenna's legs were starting to tire. Hopefully McKenna, Evans & Cairney will all be here next season along with Koren. They are all good midfielders who bring different attributes to the team. Nick just needs to know when to use certain players in different match situations.
