Too! ( I took English ) no my point is people are using these companies from Europe as a scare tactic! If we needed turbines & the Germans wouldn't deal with us then we'd build our own! :emoticon-0148-yes:

Is this serious? <laugh>

We dont need these turbines in the UK, it isnt like the governement has said "**** we need some turbines, get a German company in to build them and we'll be fine". These turbines are for off shore sites and the fact that they're being manufactured in Hull is brilliant for the local economy. Siemens dont give a **** where they build them, they want the best economic deal and came very close to choosing a site in Denmark over Hull, but this area was made very attractive to them via government incentives.

I really dont think you get it.

Could we make everything we needed in this country ourselves yes or no?
We will soon lose the ability to produce military grade steel. If we do we will be one of the only world powers that lacks the capacity. The government could use National Security as a reason to subsidise its production, but has chosen not to.

We 'may' cease production of military grade steel, it hasn't happened yet.

And the question is why?

It's not like we're buying subsidised military grade steel from China, we're buying unsubsidised military grade steel from Sweden, because it's much better quality than the stuff we make here.

I actually voted in as I worked in shipping at the time and could see the advantages for importing and exporting.
However the likes of Cunningham and his mates ****ed up and chance of taking advantage of this through containerisation. Stourton near Wakefield benefited and then the Humber Bridge meant Immingham did.
However, I didn't vote for a European Union. Though this was what was planned and those duplicitous bastards Heath and Wilson knew full well but never mentioned as they both were fervently in favour of staying in.
Remember Your Darlin' 'Arold's famous "This will not, of course, affect the pound in your pocket."? Obviously a lie, as his mouth was moving.

Yeah you're right. Lets tell Siemens to **** off and take their thousands of jobs with them.

Its up to A thousand jobs, some of which will be existing Siemens employee's moving to Hull. Some additional workers during construction of the factory and an unspecified amount of jobs in the supply / support once the plant is up and running.

Further more due to the volatile nature of the wind turbine industry this may not be a long term thing, despite the investment of 160 million (Siemens figures) I know someone who works for Vestas (another turbine manufacturer) who says its a very unstable business.

And the final point is they won't be leaving Hull if the UK votes to leave the EU.

In the context of the debate, it could be seen as important to be able to arm ourselves. In or Out it makes no difference. We are not self sufficient and we have not been for sometime.

We would have to first agree on what we really do "need" to be able to decide on that.

We certainly don't need a fraction of the crap we currently consume... imo of course.

We certainly need good quality food, shelter, education, and healthcare. But they appear to be well down the list of current priorities.
At least for those who already have them.

I've decided to exercise the rights our forefathers fought and died for and have taken the opportunity to not bother voting because I couldn't give a flying nuns ****.
