I am all for the style of play RM wants, but we don’t have the players to play that way. The players are good enough for this league but not the RM way. When will the point come to stop trying to apply lipstick on a pig. How many matches need to be lost until it clicks into place. This is the moment that RM needs to accept that players won’t improve being battered every week. He needs to come up with a system that suits the hand he has been given. We need a defensive strategy and something to magically turn goal chances into goals!

So much this from Adam Blackmore. Even when we took the lead, I didn’t get excited or expect a second goal. Teams just have to stay in the game until we make one or two mistakes, then pounce. Boro did that today and should have scored two or three more. Really losing the will to trek around the grounds to see the same dross again.
Martin apparently got a fair amount of stick when he went over to fans at end.
I had gone at the final whistle but wouldn’t be surprised. There was a lot of discontent as the game played out as we feared.

He's not going to change. Swansea fans will confirm that.

There's only two ways this ends. Either the players will adapt to his style, or he'll get sacked.

If the view is that they can't adapt, then there's little point in delaying the inevitable second option.

I’m not even sure what style we actually play, it seems so confusing and muddled.

The only thing I’d say is it is slow ponderous, and extremely suicidal playing around in our defensive third.

There can’t be any redeeming features for the owners to keep him.

Typed it up.

RM on Charly Alcaraz:

I see the players every day. Charly is young, he doesn't speak the language much, if at all. We're asking him to play in a style with a lot of structure. He knows there's things he has to do better. I said it to Gilly, I knew that I would get criticised for not bringing him on, but it's about who you can trust at this moment in time.

You're either all in with the team or you're not. At the minute, Charly needs to come over to that side really.

It's been a difficult time for him. He's lost Willy, he's lost Lyanco - those were his two best mates in the group. He's a young man, he's miles away from his home. He's had some difficult news about his dad too. All of that is going on, but people don't see it or understand it.

At some point, he will be on the pitch for us and he will be fantastic but now is not the right time for him, while this team is struggling.

That's sure to really help Charley. (Is RM assuming the lad doesn't have access to translators? <laugh>)

Absolute twat. Charley was the only highlight of last season

So this scar tissue excuse I presume refers to players that experienced relagation last season of which there were just 5 of the starting line up.
What about the others Russell? Have you and your coaching team instilled that scar tissue on them as well? You talk a big game but you have nothing on your CV to back it up.
When we lose the next 3 games (without doubt) how long will the "scar tissue" take to heel?

If I were a Boro fan, the team I`d like to be playing next is us. I expect them to be as horrible as they can, get right in our faces, stay in the game, and wait for us to make mistakes. I don`t see them being expansive and leaving us space to counter. Hope I`m wrong!
Well Leeds will be even more horrible than Boro !

I have do not share your optimism regarding a replacement. We will not pick up another win until the Rotherham game. If we fail to do get three points in that match, I think we will get relegated. Sports Republic will not ditch Martin as quickly as you imagine. Part of me agrees with Martin's omments that Saints were emotionally damaged by last season. The squad had be reduced in strength and I just feel the optimism and comments that "this is a team which should do better" strike me as being unfounded. It is a very poor squad and the mentality within it is shocking.

In my opinion, I never expected to have got as many points as we already have acquired by this point. Promotion was never a possibility in my mind albiet I felt that the repair work would make this possible next season. I don't think anyone expected Russell Martin to be so poor nor to envisage that the team would not start improving. I think we will still with him for 23/24 and I am now starting to think the season will be a relegation battle. Finishing in the bottom three now strikes me as being very plausible. I can see Martin remaining until the end of the campaign but, by the same token, I think both RM and Sports Republic will be gone by the next summer break. We have not hit the bottom yet and recovery is now impossible unless SR are no longer at the helm. If we lose to Rotherham, I feel any confidence within the club will have evaporated.
