I agree, whatever ones thoughts are on Amos, he's the only midfielder who actually moves forwards. Johanson has brought nothing to the team since his loan spell.
After a promising start to the match, it turned into a very abject performance.Only plus was defense looked decent, Kakay had one of his better games, linking well with Shadipo, Paal didn't overlap enough but looked solid, Clark-salter looked very accomplished and Dickie looked his old self striding forward with confidence. Unfortunately the rest were bang average, quite happy to never see Johannson, Dykes and Thomas in an Rs top again. Thomas isnt a championship player, Dykes can't be arsed, and Johannson couldn't find team mate 2yds away. At least Bonne and Armstrong added some movement up top but not once did we try a ball over the top for them to run onto . Not to despondent as we are always rubbish at Rovers however need some creativity pretty quickly, hopefully this will be provided by Willock and Roberts. Armstrong was totally distraught at the end hope it has set it back, biggest cheer of the day was when he came on, along with the accompanying songs
He did but got stuck under his feet, should've got longer than 10 minutes to try and get up to the pace of the game. Dykes is ****ing awful and shouldn't be starting any game, I'd rather Bonne up top than him that's how poor he is. The midfield has to change as Dozell just does **** all and Johansen is done in my eyes. We somehow have to get Amos fit and keep him fit and get Richards in there to add some drive and creativity, cos we are lacking it badly. Hopefully Willock and Roberts can add some up top and a goalscorer can come in.
Thanks for the views lads. A bit of a downer after all the talk. Once again our weaknesses seem to remain from last season. There might be a couple of players to come back but that feels like grasping at thin air. Good chance for MB to see what he really has in a proper competitive game. He has a lot to do to make his mark on this team and club. Early days. Let’s hope he gets to fill the gaps he wants to give us much more bite and depth. Lots to do. We have to give him time to get us up there but things do need to change.
As others have said, it’s all about having shots at goal, so to have none is akin to playing golf with no putter. Still, only first game in so things can and will improve. The biggest positive to come out of today’s game is that the season is long. Let’s move onto next week.
Lowest number of overall shots and only team to register zero on target in the Championship today. If that doesn’t tell the owners what we all know……
The depressing thing to me is that this is as good as it gets, player quality wise. Beale really has his work cut out to get some decent players in and needs to tap up Gerrard for some half decent players that also put the work in. Dykes has never done anything worthwhile in a rangers shirt, all wind and piss and no guile, needs to move on and quickly!
Well, Willock at his best is our best player by a country mile, so I don't think it's "grasping at thin air" to hope that his return will improve things, especially as we have Richards and Roberts to come in too.
Didn't see the match yesterday, but I suspect the service Dykes was getting was poor, if the end of last season is anything to go by.
Willock is a very good player and was sorely missed. Roberts wasn't missed by us as he's never played for us to miss him. Amos was missed but we have got used to that. I think we put too much emphasis on Willock. Let's hope he doesn't get injured long term or someone purchases him. At any level of football, not having a shot on goal is absolutely criminal. We should be able to muster 1 effort without Willock surely to God.
I suppose the only slight surprise about our game yesterday for me is that it left me feeling it is not so much another RB we need as another LB. Maybe Kakay had his best game for us while Paal had a nervous looking debut in a competitive game at this level, but ideally cover for both positions is what we need. Could be hard to find, there's only one Moses and gather he's got a job in Greece.
The service wasn't great but but when we did get a half decent cross in Dykes never got on the end of them. He looked to be on his heels when Paal got in a decent whipped cross, and it was Armstrong who at least got on the end of a Kakay cross at the death but failed to control it. Both Bonne and Armstrong looked more lively than Dykes when they came on imo.
Not sure why Dykes is getting so much stick, he needs service and didn't get it. That said Bonne was definitely busier when he came on. Actually the attacking subs (arguably too late) did make a difference. I hope having the likes of Bonne, Richards and Armstrong etc competing for places might spark some improved performances from our forward players. I'm not despondent after one game, just a glance on Twitter and you'd think the season was already over. Blackburn were marginally better but the main difference was their worldie went in and ours hit the bar.
Well hopefully Willock can play from the back to himself on the wing, cross it and get in the box to slam it in the net. Job done. Now get back and defend Chris we need you. You’re absolutely right Col.
