Squaddies are banned in a lot of places now due to the havoc caused so it's not really an issue now.

Have they now got something better than the flat dishwater like Sam Smiths they used to have?

It was quite bad about 15-20 years ago but squaddies aren't really an issue generally now from what I can gather. The most **** kicks off around 'ladies' day. Scary.

    I haven’t got a clue.

I wasn’t scared, honest. I could’ve taken them all but I’d only just been accepted to the SAS and didn’t want to scupper it.

In all seriousness, people say how nice it is and my experience was it was rough as fook in the pubs.

    To summarize then:

    - endemic random spontaneous street violence, mass brawls, men and women, mano a mano

    - traffic gridlock and major infrastructure problems

Did a bird from Beverley break your heart? What an odd person you are to have such chips on your shoulders.

People really feel threatened in Beverley?

Interesting that you said you wouldn’t move back.

    Do you still live locally?

Nellie's lost its charm the day the marble table top went. Not least of all the biscuit tin till and washing up bowl for rinsing glasses

    It is rank.

Last time I was in there I had the stout on the understating it was ‘just like Guinness’.

    GTF.

    It was absolute bum gravy.

In the early '60s Nellie's was ideal for underage drinking. Think the old biddies serving behind the marble-top table must have been shortsighted and a bit deaf (couldn't hear our squeaky voices) 'cos they always served us.
Haven't been in there for nigh on 50 years. Has it been tarted up - all glass and chrome ? Would be a shame. Always pop into Green Dragon in Beverley on my trips back home these days. Quite like the patio 'cos they have ashtrays.
T'other place we could get away with underage boozing was "Top House" on Prestongate in Hessle. Days long gone, full of happy memories.

I doubt it’s even had a lick of paint since you last went in there.

It’s like something out of a Dickensian novel.

    A proper ****hole.

I presume you'll be off to Russia to fight the locals with your beautiful boys and ex-hardnuts? <laugh>
