Iceman, yea I've tried this particular '5amsaint' and very, very, good it was too, not quite got used to the arty avant garde label yet, but despite that its been added to my growing list of favorites. My son in law works for one of the brewery groups and obtains samples on frequent occasion, unfortunately for him he's a lager philistine and does not appreciate the finer things in life like decent ale, therefore it's my responsibility to consume his unwanted samples, what a bugger eh, oh well, I try to help when I can.


Bahji, Had a pint of the very same Tetleys in North Devon only last night just prior to tucking into a fillet steak, EEEeeeeee lad it wer grand.
Tetleys seem's to travel well without loosing its uniqueness, it always tastes the same no matter where you try it.

I'd give my back teeth for a proper hand pulled (Ooooo matron) pint right now. One of the downsides if living in the states. :(
 
Bahji: thinking opportunity here. how Would TETLEY go down with your fellow country men !! Genuine, English, History, Yorkshire, I feel rich already man.
 
<laugh> Glad to see this thread still running. It's almost like an after-hours lock-in!

Very much agree with the comment about cask ales versus bottled equivalents. In fact I had a chance for direct comparisons of some of Thornbridge's best offerings today!

Sorry to be boring, but i'd have to say Tetleys. No trip to watch Arsenal is complete without at least 3 pints of the stuff.

Well, to stick my oar in here, I can recommned two local Devon breweries to me who offer some fine ales, Dartmoor Brewery and Bays Brewery.

Also, a cracking summer beer festival at Occombe Farm just outisde Paignton is always worth a vist :)


Me personally, I am a lager man and getting hacked off with the now ridiculous pub prices, have brewed my own. 30p a pint and to be honest, is a damn sight better than some of the toilet water that is passed for lager out of the taps these days.

If I had to buy, Warsteiner and Bitburger are my favourites and also conjour favourable memories of being sat outside in teh summer in Germany and being told by the landlady that '4 gross biers is enough for you British'. Bloody cheek!

How did you go about starting that? Just buy a kit and go for it?

Yep. Got a starter kit off ebay, barrel, bottles etc then got a cheap Cerveza kit from Wilkinsons for £10 and went off brewing.

Wierd thing is the beer keeps on brewing the longer its in teh bottles, so if you can make a batch last a couple of months the taste evolves over time.

Second batch is on the go at the moment, will test a bottle on saturday just to make sure its worked again :)

Lakeland had a offer on the full kit a while back, may still be going.

You can get many many 'mixes' online however some of them can get veeerrryyyy interesting once you're down the the dregs of the keg <whistle>

I bottle it all up once first stage fermentation is over so don't have quite the same issue as you can keep the sludge in the barrel, but there is still sediment at the bottom of the lager bottles when they settle, which, on my advice, don't drink unless you wish to have a complimentary colonic clear out.

to DH, all everyone says is keep the equipment clean. Dirt equipemt = bad beer.

Yeah, Dartmoor is good. Occombe farm does some great stuff too &#8211; if my memory is not too distilled&#8230;

Just got this for 'er indoors' we use it for visiting local pubs during sunshine periods, drinking sensibly of course.
