its all about vision :)

TAA showed he can take a free. great, pace, directness and add a set piece too. brill. you are in.

woodburn needs to show he's the guy who can get his head up and pick a pass, he has not the pace to run past lads, its all about picking passes for him imo.

I think its unrealistic to expect a 17 year old to start picking defences apart in the premier league.

And to be fair he's shown against Bilbao & Austria he's capable of moments of magic, its just getting him to produce similar moments to that on a regular basis. No expectations should be placed on him for a few years yet, when played anything he contributes should be a bonus outside of being disciplined and working hard.

exactly why he's not ready. he needs to develop as i said. get into the speed of thought required. The u23 games are too low a level to really do much but he can play in the underage champions league thing as well and just slot into a no 8 type role there and learn more about positioning.

Its just IMo that he cannot expect to bang in long range shows etc in a cup game but he can get in a good central position and pick several passes. Its up to others to socre the goals.

the worst thing imo for him is if he is surrounded by ****e when he gets his go and has nobody to pick out.

Its be ace for the lad to get a 20mins of 45mins behind mane and salah and let him play the ball in.... but we drew leicester in league cup :( he might well only get the one game.
 
Excuse me for joining in but as well as being a QPR fan (well we all have our cross to bear) I am also Welsh and so I am delighted for Liverpool how they have nurtured Woodburn and we (Wales) could have another superstar in the making (I am sure Real Madrid's radar is already twitching). Ian Rush (another Welsh/Kop hero) has said how highly he regards him. He is also working with Steven Gerrard who I am sure would have been proud of his goal, straight out of his copybook.

At the moment though as the Kop faithful have pointed out, his chances at Liverpool will be somewhat limited, maybe the odd appearance off the bench and some cup matches. I wonder then whether he would be better served going out on loan for the season, either to a second tier Premiership club or even to the Championship. I of course would love QPR to borrow him for the season but I can't see that happening. Then he will be much more polished for Liverpool next season and perhaps a ready made replacement for Coutinho whose days are surely numbered at Anfield.

I agree with all of that. Klopp won't rush his development as he doesn't believe in youngsters doing too much, too soon and risking burnout.

As for loaning him, I think we'll need him ourselves with all the games we have and I can see Klopp giving him just the right amount of time for us and him.
 
Klopps gonna turn him into the new paul scholes.... just as soon ashe masters the two footed lunge he willbe all ready to tell wales to go doone

Klopp didn't like sending players out on loan, he likes to keep them nearby and train them accordingly. Those gone out on loan this season are probably going to be ****ed off by next season

More so. Of course, I'm not too sure on the international status of Guernsey and whether Matty could have played for them. England, of course, were the nearest home nation to the Channel Islands, with the strongest links.

Chester is sort of IN England (although it is NEAR Wales). I presume he had 3 English grandparents, and learned all his football in Liverpool?

Note that Woodburn stayed loyal to Wales all through his underage progression. He's Welsh even if cos he clearly feels Welsh.

So Le Tiss decided not to play for his island home and decided on England, and that's okay with you.

But Woodburn born into a Welsh family on the English side of the Welsh/English border is out of order?

There's been so many non English sportsmen and women down the years yet you have a pop at a 17yr old kid about representing his family nation.<laugh>

I think you missed my point. Le Tissier HAD to choose elsewhere and England were the closest home nation, in geographical terms and historical links. Woodburn was born, raised and trained in England.

Good to know you think his maternal granddad represents his "family", while his other 3 grandparents don't?
