What reaction?
The media hype wonder-goal stuff.
It was a good goal, but goal of the season can dig up plenty similar ones every year. I don't think it helps the development of a young player for people to start building him up too big too soon. He just might start to believe it, like Sterling and others before him.

It was a crucial goal along with a great performance the reaction is nothing compared to what it would be if he was English.

It was a goal we needed to score otherwise qualify would improbable. We had Bals and Rambo playing but needed a 17 year old to sort us out.

When the likes of Tom Lawrence starts but creates nothing, it's refreshing to see Woodbury have no fear and score a great goal.

I think Woodburn will be on the cusp of our bench, think he will play winger when necessary but as he gets older slots into the middle.

Him and Trent is very refreshing to see.

I think the difference with the goal is that there were only 15 minutes left and our qualification hopes rested on picking up a win against Austria.

Obviously in isolation the goal isn't close to being a wonder-goal, but in the context of the importance of it I think it makes it a really brilliant goal. For a 17 year old to have the composure to take the ball down and place it perfectly in such an important game hints at him having a really strong mentality.

True, but that has nothing to do with my point.
I'd have the same response if it had have been for England - I really dislike the partisan nature of our press.

I agree. I'm not putting the lad down at all. It was an important goal and great that he was the one to do it.
I just don't want to see yet another young player hyped up before his time - it doesn't serve them well in the long run.
I've seen him in a few games now, and he shows real potential, but he still has a way to go.

In case it isn't obvious, I'm looking at him as a Liverpool player, btw - I can't really get excited by internationals.

Fair enough! Can't argue with that, for every young player that goes on to succeed after showing early promise there's always a Macheda type that doesn't go on to do anything of note even after having a great start.

It got me excited because I was behind the goal he scored :D

A Man Utd fan who works with me was very complimentary about his performance.

What struck me about it, and always surprises me with him, was how mature his performance was. Making himself available for a pass, keeping possession and hardly ever making the incorrect decision while on the ball.

I know people want to protect him but I just think he's ready and he needs to play. Not every game of course but he needs to be coming off the bench when we are in contraol of a game like vs The Gooners for example.

Was a good strike. I'll be more than happy if he pots a few of those for us this season. <ok>
I can't see him troubling the first team starters just yet, but we've got a lot of games to play this season (hopefully) so I'm sure he'll get his opportunity.

He's possibly ready to play, but I think guaranteeing him game time just because he's talented is the wrong way to go. The reason he gets time for Wales is because he's one of the only attacking players we have that has the talent to turn a game, with Liverpool that isn't the case, you have 7 or 8 attacking players that can win us a game, he needs to earn his playing time in training.

Same, and rightly so, he has to prove that he has something to offer that our other players don't have to offer.

I agree. He has to work on his speed of thought and picking his pass early as IMO he isn't up to the pace of the prem at all. needs time to decide now. Its just a natural progression.
