I have a Chelsea shirt, which I have worn indoors. It was given to me by my Mum, about 3 years ago, when her old age memory problems were just kicking in at 95. Incidentally, she's just coming out of hospital at 98, after going through this last spate of viruses that has taken everyone down [including me at one point]. Thankfully, she's OK and looking forward to going home.
But why did she give me a Chelsea shirt..? Long story, made short - Aged 11 I wanted a Saints kit [late 1969-70]. Parents couldn't get one or make one so Mum asked me if I would accept any other kit. Hero at the time was Peter Osgood, so she stitched me a Chelsea kit and the rest is history. People who are familiar with the story will know that I took it on holiday to Italy and played football almost every day with the locals who thereafter referred to me as Charlie Cooke for the number 11 on my shirt and shorts. Mum couldn't stitch a 9.
