Has anybody been on ja606? It is a ghost town, don't think we need to worry about them.

The chatbox is written (?) by numbskulls trying out their newfound abuse on each other. Value - zilch..... Some can even spell the four-letter words correctly.

Good plugging BLS. I wonder if we will see any influx of new users come Monday.

You too, I'm guessing we'll gain a few people on Sat and Sunday, at least this is what has happened in the past.

With 606 disappearing some on the people who float about on there may start to drift between forums which should help bring in some new comments.

The destiny of BBC 606 members
My guess is that the semi-professional who founded Clip the Apex will have his henchmen hoovering up as many BBC606 members as possible. For any who wondered about my relationship with this site, which is not directly relevant to this thread, the dirty washing is between the lines.

For anyone else, please skip straight to the asterisk at the bottom of this comment!

A personal experience:
For a few weeks, I contributed to the site mentioned above but was taken aback by the moderation team who, I was subsequently told, were apparently in the process of implementing
an automatic swear-filter which needed regular updates, but showed a lack of tolerance to some of the 'errors' committed during this period of transition. This so-called swear-filter took objection to my "Red Bull****" (literally as written here with asterisks) at about the time of Christian Horner's denial of team orders. Only days later a member of the moderation team was writing other such words in full. So, in order to avoid any embarrassment for what appeared to be a minor oversight, I sought clarification of this via the Private Message facility. However, it seems some are less respectful…

…A leading member of that site was also an ordinary member of Muzz606 at the time: a site which I took considerable interest in. He and at least one of his minions (presumably recruited for the task, who appeared, made vicious comments and vanished, without the courage to use his/her familiar name from the other site) seemed to sense an
imminent collapse of Muzz606 and appeared to attempt what I can only describe as opportunistic pirating of its membership. This attempted coup was done in a most dishonourable fashion in my opinion; deliberately discrediting a leading member of the site; clearly designed to inflame and to sew discontent amongst the members and administration of Muzz's site; together with the blatant canvassing of anyone seeking a higher quality, 'professionally' run forum. (If their founder is to be believed, their site costs money).

On a more positive note, apart from its administration (which,
if it still exists, I presume has overcome the unfortunate clash which led me to conclude that it was somewhat up its own back-side), 'Kiss the Ape who runs it' had some high quality members, two of whom undertook the mammoth task of collecting and collating statistical information for analysis - neither of whom felt it their place to become involved in the unsavoury affair described above and both of whom have my utmost respect.

As I'm sure many will know, I go out of my way to avoid personalising disagreements. Even here I have avoided naming these individuals, in spite of this not being reciprocated; neither at the time did I seek to discredit their apparent hypocrisy. It was they who went to another site to make personalised,
public remarks naming me - which I feel justifies this statement as a warning to not606. I should add that one of the moderation team did offer what seemed to be a mild apology, but this was before the personalised attack which I believe came from two others.

*N.B. Views expressed here are mine alone and are not fictitious. My personal clash is in itself not a reason to avoid the site, which, if its administration and one of its moderators have overcome such teething problems and become genuinely 'moderate', I would now expect to be quite good.

For these reasons I
would expect the above site to be the most likely beneficiary of the demise of BBC606, particularly since when I parted company it had two excellent and enthusiastic leading members (whom I refer to in the penultimate paragraph between the lines).

Stay here please - I enjoy your posts.
Definitely, me too.

I'd like to throw an idea out there, just to see what people think.

I happen to like the blend of members of not606 F1 at the moment. I'm not especially inclined to want to recruit hordes of new members. There are a fair few BBC606 posters that I'd like to continue reading but if they're not here then that's ok. I have no problem with big, busy forums like BBC606 and I'm happy to see new faces here but I enjoy the fact that, with relatively little effort, I can keep on top of all the discussions on not606. You couldn't do that on BBC606 - you just had to dip in if something caught your eye.

Unlike CTA and Muzz606 the F1 section of not606 isn't dependent on growing its userbase to stay alive because of the structure of the wider forum. I don't know how active the football forums are once their season ends but I don't think we're in any danger of fading away.

It's always good to have new blood and alternative views but I wouldn't get too het up about trying to coax users away from CTA or Muzz606. I'm sure most of them are settled in their new homes now anyway.

Genji is spot on - we have a good balance. Not too many - some techie which educates people like me, very mixed age range, witty, fun posts from time to time. Main thing we avoid is abuse - we have opinions but don't get too upset about others. New members not particularly needed.

Cosicave

When I joined Muzz, you sent me a welcome message which I really appreciated, thanks

I tried to reply but could never seem to login after that,

It was a shame you left, also a shame that you were not here from the start, but you are here now and you, genji, bls and others are what's good about this site

Thanks for the nod CookinFlatSix but there are cleverer/funnier/better posters here.

I must admit, I'd like to see Alfacar1936 do a guest spot/prediction before each GP on Alonso's and Ferrari's progress. I'm sure the mods could overlook the exceptional circumstances (like a duplicate ID) required to make that happen if it helped. ;)

Thanks CookinFlatSix.
I remember not seeing any further contributions from you on that site but at the time I was not aware of the reason. By all means send me a PM.

And Genji, are you trying to start a civil war? ;)

Genji is spot on - we have a good balance. … Main thing we avoid is abuse - we have opinions but don't get too upset about others. …
Yes Bergkamp, the very essence of what allows this place to be fun as well as informative. As a result, there emerges a rising sense of respect where everyone's contribution counts. Every single member brings something and let's face it: the daftest questions can seed the most enlightening answers…

My story:

I heard about it(Not606) about 3 days after the beeb announced the closure of 606 after the Football season. I came onto it and found it a nice design and good itellginent posts but at the time I had never joined a forum(17 years old) so was looking at all my choices. Then I looked around and finnaly when it came to decesion day for which forum I was going to join I saw this:

http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/28152-Why-is-there-no-GP-in-Africa

It really put me off this site. And also the whole Jose Lorca Mod debate(now Forza Ferrari???) and mod changes and bad mouthing on other forums just didnt work for me. I went to Clip The Apex and to be honest it is the best forum I have ever seen better than the one here. But the thing is the members were just to much for me they knew so much I was struggling to understand it all.

And the fact you sorted out the mod issues and got rid of LewisWDC made me join. I really hope that the forum continues with peace and quiet and sensible members.

There are a few issues that need adressing:

Off Topic Forum??? BLS I think raised that with Mick

ChatBox/Room during F1 Sessions??? To avoid the ChatBox???

Stats page/Vids/Pics Page??? Seeing CTA made me think that Not606 could do it.

But at the end of the day this is a good forum.
