Having a laugh at the job stabilty comments, football players dont want stability otherwise they wouldnt be able to rip the money out of clubs that they do, they dont care about the fans really its all PR with them and all about the money, Barton seems to be in the middle of a media circus rather than just getting on with it.

People who say 'if he wants to stay he can reject their offer' .. Why would he? He only has 1 year left here and the owners have made it clear they dont want him. Who would stay when youre clearly not wanted? Who knows if he will have a similar offer next season. This is rumoured to be a 5 year deal with a pay rise. Who wouldnt take that? Its all about job security.

AND - who's to say he might not sustain a really bad injury in say March/ April? That would leave him clubless and in an incredibly precarious position. He's not getting any younger...

Ashley and Llambias are totally to blame for him leaving. Using Twitter posts as an excuse is pathetic. Cant believe people actually swallow that tripe.

I totally agree that Ashley and Llambias are to blame. But how can you say that the twitter posts had nothing to do with it?

We have a clear line of cause and effect - the club (therefore A & L) offered him a deal, he wanted to negotiate, they wouldn't (fine in my opinion), he mouthed off (continuously, starting from before the contract offer) on twitter, the contract was withdrawn.

How would your boss react if he offered you an extension of your contract and then you told EVERYONE, very loudly, that he didn't know what he was doing? Would you expect him to offer you a longer contract? More money? Or would he tell you to piss off?

Personally, if Ashley had caved I would have called him a soft-as-clarts mug. And he would have had no power at all to negotiate with the players. Now, he is getting called a ****er for sticking to his guns and letting Barton leave. But i'm saying well played Ashley - you've shown Barton (and the other players) who runs the club - and it isn't them.

I thought the contract offer was withdrawn before the Twitter comments to be honest.

i dont see this joey has no choice rubbish everyone has saying. the club havnt closed the door on him at all, yes he is available on a free and MA does want to get rid but it is joey who caused this by slagging mike off in the first case. we offered joey a 2 year extension but he wanted and extra year and said he wouldnt take any sort of pay cut.

there is a reason the club havnt given him a new deal its because him or his agent are trying to rip us off, good on mike for standing up i say. joey has had one good season here and suddenly he thinks he should get a pay rise? well im sorry but we stuck by JB paying him a huge amount of money when he was in prison and a liability, let me tell you this i doubt ANY other club in the WORLD would stick by JB the way NUFC have.

this move is all about money, joey refused a contract on the same money so did enrique and so did nolan. they all wanted more after a good season, thats not the way it should be.

i wouldnt even care if joey hadnt of said he is going to stay unless he gets offered championship football. now he looks likely to join qpr, about the only club willing to pay a huge wage to him.

THIS! All this 'the club doesn't want him' is rubbish - the club offered him a contract extension which HE rejected. The club then said they'd give it time and then continue negotiations. In the meantime it was HE who said he would take a pay cut but then rejected a new contract on the same pay, HE who slagged the club off on twitter, HE who continued to do so after being warned, HE who wrote cryptic things suggesting he didn't like working for the current regime.

The club then called his bluff and offered him the chance to leave if that's how he felt. They haven't pushed him out, they've said 'if that's how you view us, you obviously don't want to be here and you're free to go if you wish'. Meantime, Joey says 'I don't want to leave', 'I would only leave for champion's league football', 'I don't want more money' - and now, HE is going back on all that. The club have continued to pick him for the first team showing their intent to keep him. I'm sure if he didn't behave like such an idiot on twitter over the next few months contract talks would re open. Given his behaviour, past AND present, the club have been overwhelmedly patient. In my opinion, he's bringing all this on himself and using twitter as some sort of PR platform in an attempt to appease, and mislead, the fans. And someone with that sort of attitude is not good for the team as a whole.

Judgin by his latest Tweet he's turning in to an attention seeking drama queen "Need some time and space think....."

Thought his hands were tied and not extension offered so mind was made up.

Something about this stinks to me, with the press and SSN around his every move and now these Tweets.

Turning into a complete joke, at least the other players just went. Turning NUFC into the circus AGAIN!!!

Shame really, he's the player I relate to most in our squad fashion, music and playing wise.

He's coming across as an arse to me, I know others have said this about MA and good PR., but I think the
best thing to do IMO is to put the original contract back at Barton for 2 years nothing more, nothing less.
If he knocks it back again then it would speak volumes to me and MA hasn't backed down in any way or lost face.

Come off it man. We get it you don't like him and are glad the club are getting rid. But stop trying to turn everything he says into some sort of evil against the club. He's waiting to see what else he is offered. We're days away from the close of the window, why would he jump to it now? He is just being sensible and exercising the right he has been afforded by the club. Nothing wrong with anything Barton has done with regards this interest. The club have created this envrionment where he can speak freely to other clubs. If you don't like that you need to look at the hierarcy not Barton.

Joey Barton recently tweeted 'Should I stay or should I go'. The Clash missed option 3. Or should I carry on like a right tit live on Sky TV

I like him as a player and not glad he's goingbut why the need to do everything through Twitter, SSN and the press???

He says one thing then says the complete opposite, Jose and Nolan kept their mouths shut until they were gone.

No conspiracy

Actually, considering all the drama, it would be a very good PR move for all concerned, especially Ashley, if Barton was offered another contract after all. I wouldn't rule it out just yet, it could be just the lift that Ashley needs to get the fans back on his side for now. Now Barton has seen the light (as in no other club wants him apart from QPR) he could go back and agree to that two year extension that was initially offered. It all plays into Ashley's hands really.

I thought that from the moment he was made available. Despite all his agents talk of loads of offers coming in nothing has materialised until QPR three weeks later, hardly the rumoured Arsenal (which was never happening frankly). Fact is in this day and age the top clubs wouldn't touch him, and that second layer of clubs that he'd fit in to (Villa, Everton, Bolton etc etc) are no longer prepared to give silly contracts to players like Barton, I assumed he'd eventually realise the grass isn't always greener and sign up to a sensible deal or bugger off to West Ham who still throw money around for fun. If he goes to QPR its for money, pure and simple, and thats the decision he needs to make. Tricky one to make, but please give up on the sob stories, conflicted interviews and toadying to fans and get on with it.

That's modern football unfortunately. As Pardew alluded to, gone are the days where players just go into an office, get a ragging and then get on with things. I'd prefer we could avoid all the press stuff and I certainly prefer Jose's approach. (not that it did him much good with folk on here, they still wanted him booed and claim his move was money orientated) Hell I'd burn twitter down tomorrow if that was possible!

The club has created the scenario though. They withdrew from negotiations, which sparked his unprofessional behaviour, which then resulted in a bite back from Ashley (free transfer), and now we have him taking up the offer of security elsewhere. I'm not keen on the SSN stuff, twitter and generally being so open about things. But I can look at it objectively and realise this is part of Joey Bartons character. He's outspoken and sometimes he pushes the boundary of acceptable. And in the current situation his ego is being massaged by all this media interest in him, and effectively all he is doing is what the club want him to. Start looking for a new club.

Still want Joey to stay, it's clear he wants to stay, which is why he is thinking things over. It's obviously a huge decision for him because remember it means his whole family would have to relocate to London when they have been settled up here since 2007. He clearly loves it here and either wants a contract offer or he is tempted to stay and keep building bridges.

Anyone think he might issue an apology to Mike?

I've had enough of Barton and his drama-queen nonsense...TAKE YOUR HITLER HAIR-DO AND HIT THE BRICKS!!!

We may be run by an utter ****, but in the words of Morrissey "There is a light and it never goes out" and in this case, it is us fans. If we alone aren't enough to make him want to stay, then he can go. This year left with us could be used building bridges back with Ashley slowly and might get him a contract offered again.
