But your reasoning for him being sent off is because of what happened after his challenge. So, if that is the case, even if his challenge was good, because after the challenge Gomes still broke his leg, he should've been sent off.

Bookings are meant to be a punishment for the challenge itself, not the aftermath.

Sure, but is that always right? For example bad drivers get people killed regularly but they always seem to get less punishment than most folk think is warranted.

With driving badly it is accepted that there's every possibility that the consequences could be very serious.

Serious bad driving quite often results in serious injury or death. A foul such as Son's would very rarely result in a serious injury. The actual injury was caused by Gomez's foot being trapped in the turf during a collision with another player.

The referee gave him a yellow card. I don't think the referee gave him a red card because of the foul.

The angles I've seen are all pretty hard to see exactly what happened, but it looks to me like Aurier (?) flying in out of control at an already off balance player was the real issue. Why is nobody talking about that?

Because it doesn't fit the narrative.

Son got sent off, so he's the one at fault - at least, that's the way it's being portrayed.

I suffered a double fracture double dislocation playing footy aged 29, basically my foot was being held to my leg via ligaments... could never play again .. so I fear for this lads career. I can only wish him well. The challenge itself on him looked cynical but innocuous enough but you could see his studs get stuck underneath him while his weight went over. Horrible .. as for the red card I suspect it did him a favour .. mentally it will be difficult for Son as well.
