Pop star Dua Lipa has been granted Albanian citizenship for promoting the country through her music and fame.

The star was born in London in 1995 to Kosovan-Albanian parents, and briefly returned to the region as a teenager.

Albanian president Bajram Begaj said Lipa had made the country "proud with her global career and engagement in important social causes".

The New Rules singer said it was "an indescribable great joy" to accept citizenship.

After posing for photos with President Begaj at Tirana City Hall, Lipa took an oath of citizenship, gave her fingerprints and signed an application form for an identity card and passport.

So, safe for her to travel there but too dangerous a place for thousands of males under 30?

A lot of them in expensive cars celebrating their independence day in London yesterday.

Makes you wonder what people here are doing. They live and work here for years and have nowt and Albanians come here and a couple of years later they have flash motors.Be interesting to see their pay slips from their highly paid jobs. And which jobs they are that our young folk can’t get,

Need a bigger picture really. Read a book a while back by an investigative journo who had spent time amongst various immigrant communities in and around London. He found that in many cases people, mainly young men, would choose to live in lousy conditions, 4 or 5 to a room and all that, so that they could spend their modest but largely honest incomes on cars. Also a flash motor could, for example, be a 20 year old Merc which looks smart but might have been picked up at auction for not much more than a thousand or two.

Those car weren’t 20 years old.

Yes, I saw pictures of them
Need a bigger picture. Some time ago I read an article by an investigative journalist. Maybe since then they have stopped involvement with drugs and are all affording things through working at lowly paid jobs and flat sharing?

That last bit's silly.
There's 20-odd thousand Albanians in UK, you seem to be suggesting they're all driving around in flash cars paid for by dodgy funds based on a twitter video.

Most of them have only arrived here recently. Wonder why they want to come here. No doubt you think they are genuine asylum seekers. Though women, children and old people don’t seem to be under threat back in Albania as they aren’t arriving on the dinghies.

Albania is in nato.

Good article link from Cityzen that clearly lays out the reality of what's going on here. No, not all Albanians are involved in the drug trade but some people need to wake the hell up to reality. What I don't get is why so many people jump to the defence of these people when it's so blatantly obvious what's going on. We'll wake up when it's too late ....if it isn't already. Frightening.
