If we hadn't ****ed up on Saturday, Silva would have managed 1.5 pts per game, against Phelan managing less than a point a game, the difference between relegation and staying up.

Phelan W/6 D/5 L/13 = 23 (24 games)
Silva W/8 D/3 L/9 = 27 (20 games)

Factor in the added difficulty of coming into a club already in difficulty, selling off two key players and the added difficulty of the pressure on the games at the end of the season and Silva's done a brilliant job.

He'll have no shortage of offers in the summer.

Phelan did well in the cups - a couple of those wins (Stoke and Man U) transferred to our league form would have probably seen him stay as manager for a while
longer at least.

But there's a huge gulf in both manager's PL stats:

Phelan W3 D4 L13 = 13 pts or 0.65 pts per game
Silva W6 D3 L7 = 21 pts or 1.3125 pts per game

And it's the big money league that matters

Phelan didn't face, much less beat United in the Cup.
